Yep, been one of those days.

On the way to work, stopped to get fuel. While filling the car up, realized that wasn't gonna be a fart, so did the clenched butt run into the restroom. One stall open thank god! Drop trou, release the flood gates, then find one, count it, one f-ing square of toilet paper on roll. Guys beside me said they couldn't get an extra roll off theirs, but handed me a big wad of paper. Got all cleaned up, headed back to car, and seems some one must have "borrowed" the fuel nozzle, as the pump showed 26 gallons dispensed. My car only old 16 gals.

Richard Cranium
08-30-2013, 10:28 PM
Mechanic, I started off doing Fire/Rescue back in the 80's, was able to parlay that into a few entry level mechanics jobs.

I ended up out in AZ running a semi pro feeder series team (like AAA ball) Ended up at Indy, won the crew chief award at the 500 my last year. I drove competitively during most of my AZ stint, started out testing our "house" cars and got picked up by an amateur driver/car owner that we provided for. I ended up leaving the gig because I had topped out and wasn't learning anything and although competitive as a driver, I didn't have the backing to make a career out of it.
Sad part is, some of the schmucks I ran against made the big show.. Cool part is some of the schmucks I had driving for me made the big show..

So when I say that Danica is a no talent CUNT, I say that with experience and authority.

KevinD
08-30-2013, 10:43 PM
I fully agree with the Danica comment. I would also say that when DEjr first came up to top, he had no business being there. None at all. I never advanced further than dirt track racing in bombers, the street stock classes. First time I ever turned right at speed on a track what at the SRT driving school thingie we got when I bought my wife's car. Pretty damned fun, and I found out there's a nice road course about an hour drive from my home. I bought a 91 Camaro to make into a stock class road racer (I don't remember what the class name was, but had to be stock body, drivetrain and suspension other than shocks tires and brakes) Never did a thing with it and finally sold it.

Richard Cranium
08-30-2013, 11:13 PM
American Sedan? That was a class that was available in SCCA, at least it was 10 years ago.

We tested at a club track just outside of Houston several 8-10 times a year, swamp ass hot,

we stayed right in the city so the nightlife was pretty ok. We also raced around the Reunion Arena (?) Astro Dome for a couple of years.

KevinD
08-31-2013, 12:25 AM
No, I'm sure it wasn't sedan, as I have always had coupes. I've found the track: www.msrhouston.com but not really anything about the racing classes. Oh well, it was mostly a pipe dream.

Richard Cranium
08-31-2013, 12:34 AM
yep. MSR is the place.

KevinD
08-31-2013, 12:38 AM
For some reason, on the SRT track day, we ran the course clockwise, which is backwards. Anyhow, I had an absolute blast, and didn't do too terribly bad considering that at the time I knew jack all about the science of road racing. SRT also had a small auto cross cone course setup, and I turned in the 3rd fastest time of the day. Still got my SRT jacket somewhere around here that I won for 3rd.

Richard Cranium
08-31-2013, 12:41 AM
My guess is this is the sanctioning body of the class you considered.

http://www.nasaproracing.com/

KevinD
08-31-2013, 12:53 AM
Wow, yep that was the sanctioning body. Now that I had a quick look at the classification rules, I could kick myself for not remembering the class. F-ing duh....Camaro/Mustang challenge. Looked to me like the easiest to get started in with a vehicle whose dynamics I was familiar with.

Richard Cranium
08-31-2013, 01:14 AM
Cool deal. I've built several similar class cars that competed for the National Championship in SCCA, no champs but a few top 3's and a bunch of divisional championships.

KevinD
08-31-2013, 01:34 AM
I'm a total newbie at road course stuff. Still want to try it some day on a more regular basis though. Lately I've been studying the Lateral-g website and kicking around the idea of getting a 71-73 Camaro to build and play with.

Richard Cranium
08-31-2013, 01:47 AM
kinda bad for road racing.. heavy with really really shitty suspension..

Look at the rules really good, figure out what cars you like and then look around for something already built. Much, much, much cheaper that way, many of the NASA cars can go for only a few grand vs. many, many thousands to build something decent. Plenty of creative work left to do as you learn what it takes to go faster.
I started out building a VW GTI from scratch, big mistake, piles of parts I had to buy over and over until I finally learned the right combo of shit needed to be competitive. I finally won a regional championship after a couple of years but could have done it much sooner and much cheaper if I had just bought a decent used one locally to begin with.
I cant stress enough that you will have plenty to tinker with, it will soon be just as much yours as if you built from scratch only cheaper, quicker and less frustrating..

KevinD
08-31-2013, 02:02 AM
I've been browsing various places looking for a built car already. No doubt in my mind I want a Camaro or Mustang. I've thought about a Miata, and even driven a couple stock class race prepped, but just couldn't warm to them.

Hal-9000
09-03-2013, 06:23 PM
It would be about the same as a 2013 Civic after I add in the fuzzy dice and the plastic sheeting for the entire back seat area and trunk....8-[

the Civic had a little more pep but it put you pretty far back from the deep dash and the windshield was sloped quite a bit too....The Corolla felt larger inside. I drove a Mazda 3 and that little car had balls, but it felt a little cramped and seemed like in a few years it would shake apart. Of all compacts, the 2014 Chevy Cruze is highly rated...something about the future reliability makes me stay away tho..

the Corolla had a very clean dash with basic controls, some infotainment stuff that looked simple to use and practical

Heading into Manhattan shortly. We have passes to the 9/11 memorial and a visit set up at the FH right at ground zero. maybe heading out to look up lady liberty skirt after that.

Hooked up with my IPFD buddys last night for a few cocktails, crazy bunch of fuckers..

I don't think I could visit Ground Zero...as a teenager I saw the Reader's Digest article featuring the story of Philippe Petit, the guy who broke into and then crossed from World Trade Center One over to Two, on a tightrope. The buildings were still new, under construction on the upper floors and the story amazed me.

It would be strange looking up at complete loss...for me anyways :(

Dear [senators and representative]:

After much reading, consideration, and reflection, this usually hawkish conservative has decided that the US should stay out of Syria. The Syrian civil war is not an eminent threat to US interests, our involvement risks widening the conflict, and international law can be upheld without the use of US force.

Please vote NO on legislation authorizing the use of force in Syria.

married chick next door tried to light their camper parked in the driveway on fire one night...she ended up killing herself...

I've only spoken to the guy next door once since then (nice guy with a 14 yr old boy)...I told him this:

You may have thought - If only I said something, paid more attention, if I listened closer to her....tried to show her more love.

It doesn't work that way with depression. You can be getting counseling, you can be put on a good drug program and you can be surrounded by the most supportive people in the world...but that doesn't stop depression. It's a decision made within, either based on personality or brain chemicals depending on who and what you believe.

Sometimes the decision is made and nothing will change the outcome :(

I'm going to make a probably unpopular comment....

I feel it's your right to end your life. If you're in physical or mental pain..or perhaps you've done something you can't live with...or had something done to you that's unbearable...why go through life in absolute misery, dreading every day?

I don't feel that anyone can make a value judgement about another person and say- Life is great! How dare you end yours?? - until you've walked a mile in that person's shoes.

anyways...I don't agree with what your buddy's friend did there...you try and help until you can't help anymore and then the decision is left with the person in question...

so we have a new group working in our building...there's a tall good looking blonde girl who wears glasses....she has the ass and body of a goddess and is super quiet and shy...

today someone finally introduces us and she goes by 'Staz', apparently short for some European name
I instantly ask - SPAZ???

I've gotten the stinkeye before for various reasons.....today, the look she gave made my testicles contract right back up into my body cavity

 oops

so I sold my old car yesterday to a coworker...

I had 3 brown people over last night, comes time to date the bill of sale and I kinda say in a low voice...oh, it's September 11th.

Swear to God both guys put their heads down and sigh and look uncomfortable. (these guys are Christians, not Muslim)

Knowing that I'm making things uncomfortable I say - Hey! it's a new day and time to make some better memories between the brown and white people!

they both laughed and looked visibly relieved

Got the oil changed in my truck. While under there, I decided to try to track down some noises. Found driver's side front hub is bad. Will replace it later. Yay!

Hmm, decisions, decisions. Was just offered a job in Pennsylvania, starting at $46/hr. Travel paid, Apartment paid. 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. Dunno yet what ins would cost, but would only get $35/day per deim. Company truck, credit card, yada-yada.
After Penn st. income tax (3.07%) and an approximation of what the ins would cost (based on a buddy who works for said company) I'd bring home about 6k/month after fed taxes too.

Dunno if I want to work that hard for in reality, only a bit more than I make a year now.

You would be closer to be, prolly not worth the money.

Actually, the more I look at it, the less attractive it looks. Everyone I know from here that works in Pennsylvania hates it up there.

Think I'm gonna let it pass me by. I'd rather stay where I am for now, though I am looking for another job. I'm at the point now where honestly, I'd rather be in an office than being out in the trenches everyday.

So the science pundits are saying that Voyager has left our solar system and has entered into interstellar space. This is absolutely wonderful, awe-inspiring news. Then you've got some other science guys saying "hang on a minute... what about the Oort cloud? If it hasn't passed beyond the Oort cloud, then it hasn't left the solar system!"

It'll take Voyager about a thousand years or so to reach the Oort cloud.
