Went to a haunted house on Saturday night with the g/f and her oldest daughter and her fiance....was a pretty good time. Wasn't terribly scary, although there were some freaky spots and I did get startled a few times by the actors jumping out at you from the dark corners. I know full well that education in this county has a surplus slush fund worth about $60 million and could easily cover what they want the sales tax increase to cover. well I drove a 2014 Camry today...more room inside, disc brakes all the way around, independent suspension, more power, heavier car....and I didn't think it was much better than my 2014 Corolla :lol:


quiet, well dampened ride but I like the Corolla handling better

funny observation - Both the Corolla and Camry are LE, entry level trim models....yet the seats in the Camry were way comfier and had less severe side bolstering on them. I asked the dude at the new car lot if they could put a Camry seat into my Corolla :lol:

waaaaay better car lot than the place I bought from...these are the guys that removed the floor hump, didn't charge me and I didn't purchase the car there...they know about customer service :thumbsup:

hopefully their collision center can work some magic and exchange the seats

I flipped on the breaker for the hottub as the temp has been dropping below freezing and I don't want the pipes to freeze and break. Realized this morning that it has NOT been running. I think the motor or pump is seized. Motor hums then shuts off. Tried tapping it (gently) with a hammer, no dice.

I can't afford to fix it right now so as a temporary measure I've put a small heater out in the sunroom to try and keep the room above freezing.

Nah. I'm just taking a shitload of those MOOCs for the hell of it. I've finished 4 classes already, a fifth is just about to end (I finished all the requirements), and I'm working on 6 others.

I will tell you this: next year, I think I'm just gonna attack 3 or 4 at a time and try and pace myself. In typical 'me' fashion, I've bitten off more than I can chew to start with, but somehow, I'm still managing to keep my head above water and excel in everything I'm doing.

I read somewhere once that the secret to aging gracefully was to never stop learning. So every chance I have to learn something new that I might find remotely useful or that I might have a passing interest in, I'll take a stab at it.

The majority of the courses I'm doing are things that I always thought about taking back in college, but was too busy with what I was already doing to look into.

I'm using both Coursera and EdX. I finished 4 classes already and I'm gonna add 1 more to the finished list sometime next week. Deja Vu. :lol: Technically, I'm done with it already, but its appointed time to end hasn't passed yet. Out of the four already finished, I got three statements of accomplishment. For the one I didn't earn, I got my ass kicked in an Electrical Engineering course. I've never really been good with circuits. However, I don't like to lose, so I'm looking forward to when it's offered again. I earned statements in a very watered down Python programming course, a business course that was more like a survey of the instructor's ideas of what a responsible model business should be, and a mechanical engineering statics course that's more like the first half of a 2 parter. It mostly went over the math and physics required to do the second course, which I'm in now. These are over at Coursera.

I'm currently taking another Python course over at EdX offered by MIT. I felt kind of ripped off by the first Python course over at Coursera because I already know they didn't give a complete survey of the language's features. The MIT course is a lot more in depth and way more challenging. I'm a native C and C++ programmer, so there's really nothing new under the sun for me. But still, it's always good to know multiple languages.

Back at Coursera, I'm currently in a Microeconomics course (fun), a Finance course(kinda fun), an Accounting course (sucks really hard, I hate Accounting), a Model Thinking course (interesting, to say the least... it's kind of a sociology course that leans on everything else), and I'm just finishing a Philosophical Logic and Reasoning course (which wasn't what I expected, but enjoyed nonetheless).

Generally when I do well, I beat the shit out of them. When I don't do well, it's a disaster.

It's kind of funny, I'm avoiding my bread and butter, which is straight Math and Physics, but they have a ton of those over at Saylor.org, and I'm thinking about taking some of those on for shits and giggles. If I do, there'll be nothing new, since I've seen it all before. But, I guess it would be good to use that site to review what I already know.
