I'd assume business casual. You can google it, but basically you're a little more relaxed and comfortable, but you don't look like a slob. Some people say khakis work, others don't. You can wear a sport coat, but you don't have to, same with a tie. Avoid jeans and sneakers. Informal, but not too informal. No suits.

Well that client's Christmas party was actually pretty fun. Little embarrassing though because my name was drawn for the grand door prize. Brand new iPad HD/retina/mini whatthefuckever it was. Immediately asked them to redraw. Just didn't feel right to be a guest at their company party and walk out with an expensive gift. Probably against my company's policy to accept gifts that value anyways.

... but technically I did win it and give it back to them, so maybe my boss will let me expense it

The store I bought it from always sends freebie junk and a catalog. Well, I'm not gonna use any of this freebie crap, and I'm not gonna give the freebies and catalog to her early, but I had a little bit of wrapping paper left over, so I wrapped that shit too.

I feel so much for anyone with a relative that has dementia or Alzheimer's. It's breaking my father's heart but he loves her too much to get angry or give up. To me that's real love...standing by a partner that's treating you like absolute shit. My Mom and I went through it with my Dad. And he was stronger than hell. He had three kids and completely forgot about us. He used to think I was an intruder and he would swing at me. Actually caught me once when I was having a slow day. Luckily, he didn't leave a mark. It took everything in me not to kill him for it. But I was glad he didn't leave a mark. I didn't want to have to explain it to Mom. She was still going to work at the time, so she never saw him coming at me. When he got real bad, coming after me while she was home, forgetting she was his wife, saw how bad he was hallucinating, she finally took a sabbatical. It's hard. I understand.

I can't imagine....thanks for sharing dude.

Worst my Ma has done to me is walk up and say - Where's hal?

I used to referee between the two of them when she forgot my Dad...something I'd say would calm her down I guess. Now if I try to mend things, she becomes a different person and gets really angry....it's so freaky because normally she's like a small child when she's forgetting stuff, then her eyes change and she becomes kind of like my Mom of old when she was really strict with me after I did something bad..

it's such a pile of shit...to live your whole life honestly, work hard, be generous to other people, and then be rewarded with a horrible disease near the end of the road..

the brain fascinates me and I wish that I was smarter and would have become a doctor...they say all of the long term and short term memories are still in there, they just can't access them anymore....

So if I understand the argument, Ted Cruz et al was ridiculous and idiotic for "causing" a government shutdown over an individual mandate that is "beyond Obama's control." But Obama unilaterally eliminating the exact same mandate for millions of people is not ridiculous at all, nor is it proof that he did, in fact, have the power to prevent government shutdown in the first place.

Well that certainly seems logical.

Just finished the annual Windows format/reinstall all programs and files

it inspired me to write something :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AN OPEN LETTER TO BILL GATES

Hi Bill,

You are a complete dick.

Allow me to elaborate. I just finished doing a simple format/install of Windows 7 operating system on my home computer. I started yesterday morning at 9am.

9am to 10am - Formatted hard drive, installed Windows 7 along with all hardware drivers, codecs, full security suite, full MS Office program, and installed my saved pictures, video and music...all offline.

Then I plugged in my network cable...

10am to 10:05am - Security suite activated, downloaded all of it's virus and firewall definitions to date and then initialized itself intelligently, without me changing one setting.

10:05am - 6:30pm - Visited your Windows Update site :x :x :x

Bill, WTF dude??? Listen pal I'm pissed and I'll explain why. I bought your Windows Home Premium DVD for the 'reduced' price of 100 dollars (OEM version, no box, no instructions, just the disc). You promised me the user, the excitement and pleasure of being able to watch movies, listen to music, send emails and to create documents on my very own home pc.

What you did instead was... you sucked tiny bits of my soul, over an excruciating long period of time, all in the name of trying to use your product. A product I've already paid for. Satan would be proud.

Let me give you a small timeline/description of my Saturday off from work:

10:05am - W.U. downloaded and installed 2 updates, so far, so good. Then it rebooted my pc.

W.U. then told me I now need 136 updates. One hundred and thirty six...if your operating system was a country, North Korea would be laughing at you.

I agree and wait.

11:30am - Rebooted twice and now W.U. says that I need 14 more updates. Something about "NET framework" being installed. I'm tired and getting a little hungry so I agree. Another hour goes by with me anxiously looking at my monitor like a kid on Christmas morning expecting a fuckton of presents and getting socks instead. I get to reboot again.

12:45pm - W.U. says that I only need 8 more updates. Woot! I feel that I'm nearing the end of this dark tunnel, with porn and funny Youtube movies just around the next corner...

:meh: One the updates is SERVICE PACK 1. I assume that it's a rollup of past hotfixes/patches/bandaids/updates, so I grind my teeth, grab a book and wait this bitch out once again.

12:45pm to 3pm - Downloading, installing and configuring SERVICE PACK 1 involved 4 separate reboots while it configured things in increments of 33% during the start up and shut down processes. I now know how POW's in Vietnam felt... in between their torture sessions and meals of maggot ridden rice. Thank you.

3pm - Windows suddenly realizes that I need another version of NET FRAMEWORK (3 versions by this point), Internet Explorer (8, 9, 10, 11? I lost track..) and that I have OFFICE installed. We must of course update those little gems while we're here, despite the fact the older versions are/were useless.

4:15pm to 6:30pm - One last check on the Windows Update site says that 'I am completely up to date'. HURRAY! There was much rejoicing throughout the land! I go outside and offer to shovel 3 of my neighbor's sidewalks because I am simultaneously relieved and ecstatic. In my heightened good mood, I decide to check for updates one last time to be sure...

58 more updates.....

Bill my friend, suggestion? Don't send a user to your site and then offer up a potpourri of updates labeled - IMPORTANT, RECOMMENDED and OPTIONAL. It's confusing and irritating. Since we pay you 100 dollars a pop for your product (minimum), wouldn't it be fair if your site actually looked at each user's pc, made an intelligent appraisal and then downloaded EVERY BLOODY HOTFIX AND PATCH that was necessary for the pc in question to run safely and efficiently??? And did it all at one time??? That should be your thanks to us, for buying your OS's that contain more holes than a 10 dolla crack whore on a Friday night.

it's a good suggestion RBP and thanks...without turning this into a total tech discussion, a system disc image typically lays the new image over the existing files. While it doesn't use any of the existing files, the old file system and registry is still on your hard drive.

even if a person could do a format, then install the system image, things like your security suite would look for old associations, to update the new version. (once a year security suites)

not a big deal but the whole image premise to me... is like jumping on a whore who previously had 20 customers that night and just gave herself a spit bath

They should just automatically make a free full install download available every time they come out with a service pack. Download windows7 SP2, burn to disk and install an almost fully updated disk.

I couldn't get the chain of events in my mind...if I use the WIN 7 DVD for the format, it starts installing Windows in the same action. It's not like XP that had a separate format progress bar...

in fact using WIN 7 the format seems too quick/ non existent to the combined process.

So I would need a method to format the drive, third party software wouldn't work because it runs within Windows, correct?

so I somehow get the drive formatted and then have to use a Windows recovery DVD to install the image....that's the part that stopped me...the bridge between the two actions

As far as the format I don't know if the recovery disk has a format tool, I haven't used it yet. So possibly you would need a 3rd party app to format, there are many that run off of disk or flash drive with no OS needed. And I assume you just put the OS image on a USB drive or separate partition and point the recovery disk to it?

Anyway it is kinda a catch 22, the only benefit to an image is not having to reinstall all the programs and a few updates, you're still gonna have a years worth of updating to do. unless you have a more recent image but that would be pointless unless you have a catastrophic failure and want everything right back to before the crash.

Hal-9000
12-22-2013, 09:41 PM
good points Pony...

It's only the Windows updates that are a pain ( I installed browser, email client, some games within an hour after that...) and a user would have to do a year's worth of W.U. anyways, using my scenario.

I've never seen a format option on the recovery disc...will check that in a moment...

and yes, the images were saved to an external hard drive because they were about 70 and 110 gigs each...

Hal-9000
12-22-2013, 09:46 PM
Nope, no format tool but there is access to a command prompt...

if Win 7 will obey the old format C: routine, a fella might be in business using that recovery disc..

No, it's not everyone and I didn't say it was, but unruly/misbehaved children sure do seem a lot more prevalent now than they used to be. If that was me doing something like that in the middle of a store in public, my ass would have been spanked in the store and probably later at home as well...and it would have been the first, last, and only time I acted that way.

Man, I'm in the wrong business...with our second dog getting close to arriving, it got me thinking about my least favorite part of dog ownership...cleaning up the yard. With Pepper, I do the yard every other day, but I probably could get away with every 3 days. I just don't like the yard to get overly messy between cleanings.

So, I knew there were professional pet waste yard cleaning companies out there so I started checking them out and Ho Lee Fook are they expensive. They go anywhere from $65/month to over $100/month, and that's only to clean twice a week. :wha:

I don't like being the one who always cleans the dog poop up, but I sure wouldn't pay someone that much to do it.

A tamale (Spanish: tamal [taˈmal], from Nahuatl: tamalli [taˈmalːi];[1] plural: tamales) is a traditional Mesoamerican dish made of masa (a starchy dough, usually corn-based), which is steamed or boiled in a leaf wrapper.

I like straight up pork tamales. I've had them here in GA, out in Texas, and down in Florida. I've only had bad ones once, and it's because the restaurant tried to skimp on the pork. But the masa's always been spot on. I usually get them smothered with red chili or queso sauce.

You’re taking care of a friend’s house while he’s on vacation. One hot day you pull the chain on a ceiling fan, and when it doesn’t respond you realize the house has temporarily lost power. Unfortunately, you have to leave now, and you’ll be away for several days.

You know that the fan was in the “off” position before you pulled the chain, and that pulling the chain successively will cycle it through its remaining settings (“off,” “high,” “medium,” etc.). You don’t know how many settings there are, but you’re sure there aren’t more than 4.

How can you ensure that the fan will be in the “off” position when power is restored? (Assume that you can’t simply cut the fan’s power.)

I'd rather watch the Chiefs/Chargers game. The Chargers beat some better teams this year and they'll be ousted from the playoffs if they don't win. Makes for a more exciting game. If the Saints don't win, they could miss the playoffs, but c'mon, man, it's the Bucs we're talking about. Brees has already lit them up for 320 yards and 4 TDs in the first half alone. There's no way the Bucs are gonna keep up with that.

Right now, I think the most interesting game would be the Packers-Bears game.

I've got the Cowgirls/Eagles later too. Go Eagles!!!

Chargers took it to OT, but got the win. I'm rooting for Eagles as well. Can't stand the Cowboys.

I had a similar problem after a Windows Update...it pooched the graphics driver first, then affected the boot sector...

sorry to say but that was my only time where I had to use a Windows system image to get all of my crap back :(

And we're back after another windows startup repair............ methinks there's something fishy going on here :wha: CD drive is fine........ just realised the Win7 disk i burned off from my mum and dads pc isn't a bootable disk, doh! Explains why it wouldn't boot from cd

same drive that the checkdisk, startup repair were performed on Goof?

Yep! Think i'm just gonna bite the bullet and do a format/reinstall. At least i've managed to backup everything important........ just the updates and reinstalling programs that's a pain :x I do have a Win7 Ultimate with SP1 though so that takes away a bit of downloading

I really don't like this course's format. The dude's videos are of him teaching a class with the class interacting a lot. Subsequently, his lectures, which should probably be less than 10 minutes for each video, range from 18 minutes to 45 per video. I don't feel like sitting around watching a video of this guy waiting for his students to answer his lecture questions right. It's a waste of time.

Well, there is another one, but it's peer-graded, and I don't approve of that grading system. As far as I'm concerned, it just means that the instructors of the course are lazy.

Surprisingly no. Dogs were barking when they heard them talking. The windows are the slide type so the lock is shit, and I got out there before they pulled the column cover, thank god.

That's purely a touchwiz problem. Touchwiz is the overlay that samsung puts ontop of android, and it's bloated and shit.

Pure android is rock solid stable and blazing fast.
