Fucking local cops found a new place to hide on the interstate....I know where they usually run speed traps and I always slow down there (speed limit is 55 thru this particular stretch and I'm usually doing about 70). So I slowed down for the usual speed trap area and when there was no cop (there is one there about 33% of the time) and then sped back up...only to find a new speed trap a few hundred yards farther down the road and in the dark the cop was very well hidden, I didn't see him until it was too late. And as speedometers aren't terribly accurate, I guess I was doing somewhere between 68 and 72 in a 55.

Thought for sure I was busted and was resigned to getting a speeding ticket. Kept watching my rear view and the lights never came on and the cop never pulled out into traffic. I got super fucking lucky because I guess he was looking for people going 75+ which happens a lot at that time of the morning on that stretch of the interstate and he wanted the BIG ticket.

Well, I guess I now know where to slow down for a new speed trap. :lol:

Holy fuck I'm flustered right now.

Got a new car battery today and brought it to my dad's place as I was going for dinner. I brought it into the garage and ran inside to use the washroom. I get back out there and he's already swapping the thing. Me being ultra-careful, I would have made notes or taken a photo with my phone to triple-guarantee I got the polarity correct. My dad however (we call him Mr. Abrupt) just went for it. I love my Dad and he's a smart man, but sometimes he just does things...

He connected it backwards and even thought it sparked, used a rubber mallet to get it right on. Thank god he didn't have the keys to the ignition, so nobody tried to start it. All the same, the car starts making a noise like the fans going and I just told him "unplug it -NOW." So he does, I swap it around and get it on there. Now everything seems to be running okay, interior components and engine seem to be working fine when I took it for a short drive. I'm just worried the battery's polarity or the alternator is fucked. I checked the fuses and it all seems okay. It's a 2005 Mazda3 so I'm not entirely sure what kind of protection it has against this sort of fuckup.

Felt bad for my dad when all was said and done :lol: He's such a kind guy it's impossible to be mad even though inside I'm furious.

Ugh.. hopefully my car continues to start and this new $130 battery is okay.

Thanks guys, everyone was fine. She didn't hit me that hard. We were stopped at a red light and she was thankfully slowing down, but for somer reason she didn't see us and stop in time. If I had to guess, maybe she hit me around 10 to 15 mph. Like I said, her vehicle (which was a small SUV like a Ford Escape or something) was way worse than mine. Her plastic bumper lost the fight with my steel one.

She did have insurance and I got all that info and sent it off to my insurance agent. I really don't know if it will be worth the hassle of getting it repaired though because the damage on my truck is minimal. Pix below (clicky):

She hasn't had any more seizures, so that's good. They will do more testing this morning, MRI and EEG. She's just resting between nursing interruptions, but seems more clear minded than last night.

Looking at the photos, does it look worth it?

I have been at the hospital since 1:30. Girlfriend had her first seizure in 11 years. 10 minutes after discharge she had another in the car. Back at the hospital now.


She hasn't had any more seizures, so that's good. They will do more testing this morning, MRI and EEG. She's just resting between nursing interruptions, but seems more clear minded than last night.

Thanks guys, everyone was fine. She didn't hit me that hard. We were stopped at a red light and she was thankfully slowing down, but for somer reason she didn't see us and stop in time. If I had to guess, maybe she hit me around 10 to 15 mph. Like I said, her vehicle (which was a small SUV like a Ford Escape or something) was way worse than mine. Her plastic bumper lost the fight with my steel one.

She did have insurance and I got all that info and sent it off to my insurance agent. I really don't know if it will be worth the hassle of getting it repaired though because the damage on my truck is minimal. Pix below (clicky):

Yep brackets are bent and anytime the hitch takes a hit it puts big stress on the frame rails, in this case the frame is probably ok though as it was a taller vehicle.

state farm should be pretty easy, you might only get a rental if you have rental coverage on your policy even though its not a claim on yours. Get an estimate and if its only bumper parts and they order them in advance the shop should be able to get it back to you same day.

good to hear.....she obviously has a history with epilepsy? I used to take Tegratol (nova-carbaszine (sp) is close to the RX name) for migraines...they give it to people with epilepsy and it's supposed to work wonders on eliminating the seizures

Holy fuck I'm flustered right now.

Got a new car battery today and brought it to my dad's place as I was going for dinner. I brought it into the garage and ran inside to use the washroom. I get back out there and he's already swapping the thing. Me being ultra-careful, I would have made notes or taken a photo with my phone to triple-guarantee I got the polarity correct. My dad however (we call him Mr. Abrupt) just went for it. I love my Dad and he's a smart man, but sometimes he just does things...

He connected it backwards and even thought it sparked, used a rubber mallet to get it right on. Thank god he didn't have the keys to the ignition, so nobody tried to start it. All the same, the car starts making a noise like the fans going and I just told him "unplug it -NOW." So he does, I swap it around and get it on there. Now everything seems to be running okay, interior components and engine seem to be working fine when I took it for a short drive. I'm just worried the battery's polarity or the alternator is fucked. I checked the fuses and it all seems okay. It's a 2005 Mazda3 so I'm not entirely sure what kind of protection it has against this sort of fuckup.

Felt bad for my dad when all was said and done :lol: He's such a kind guy it's impossible to be mad even though inside I'm furious.

Ugh.. hopefully my car continues to start and this new $130 battery is okay.
I was going to ask how he got the battery terminals on , since they are different sizes... then I read the mallett bit and thought "aaaahhhh..." :lol:

Should be alright, the PJB is normally the first thing to go pop on those things (controls amongst other things windows, radio and central locking)

Thanks. Yes, epilepsy. The scans were negative for another cause. Started at 16 and she got it controlled at 21. Now it's back.

She was discharged and is on her way home. All I can do is support her and hope for the best.

There was an issue when I was a kid. An eye doctor that was kind of forceful. Let's just say that because of the experience, I've developed an adverse reaction when people mess with my eyes. I've been known to become uncontrollably violent.

The last time my eyes were checked was when I got these glasses back in 2000. I was in college and a few of my biggest friends came with me and held me down. I didn't really have a choice in the matter. I was suffering from severe eyestrain when sitting in the front row of a classroom and I was getting wicked migraines because of it. I saw three doctors and they all said the same thing: Go get your eyes checked.

One of the reasons I like the 17 inch laptops is there's much more room in the case to get rid of excess heat, they always seem to run much cooler than the 14/15inch rigs.

Removing the SSD drive
Moving the original 500 gig drive from the DVD caddy to the primary bay. (luckily I left the factory OS intact in an "old" folder)
Installing a 1TB drive I just bought for $80 in the internal DVD caddy
Booted right up and now installing 16 months worth of windows updates
Next up is removing Norton, installing MSE

Already sold it for $500 minus the $80 for the hard drive. And I keep the SSD drive out of it for my new laptop.

Your RAM is expandable to 32 gigs, not 16. It says so under the specs tab.

I don't like the idea of a 5400rpm hard drive. I thought 5400rpms were put out to pasture years ago. But who knows? You might not notice a difference.

I think the 5400 speed drives are still really common in laptops for the quiet operation and the low energy consumption. They do whatever they can to keep the battery time numbers as high as possible.

Overall I like the core I7, the backlit keyboard and all the options for expansion (HDD,Memory)
Don't care for the integrated intel graphics though but I don't do any gaming and it is sufficient for 1080p playback.
