A Houston-area father fatally shot a 17-year-old boy who was inside his teen daughter's bedroom early Thursday morning, MyFoxHouston.com reported.

The father, who was not identified, was notified by one of his children that there was someone in his 16-year-old daughter's room, the report said. He reportedly found his daughter in bed with the teen.

The confrontation occurred around 2:20 a.m. The father had a gun and asked the teen to identify himself, police said, according to the report. His daughter reportedly told her father that she did not know the teen and that the two were not in bed.

The father said he told the teen not to move, but reportedly saw the teen reach for something, at which point police say the father opened fire. The teen did not have a gun. His daughter later confessed that she did indeed know the teen, the report said.

"You just feel terrible for the families," one neighbor told the station. "You just kind of reflect on both of these families’ lives have changed forever."

The father was taken by ambulance from the home for treatment of an unrelated medical situation. So far no arrests have been made, but detectives told the station that they are going to refer the case to a grand jury.

What a dumb bitch. What's so hard about being honest? At least if she said he knew the kid, the extent of the kid's injuries would probably have only resulted from getting thrown through a window.

The Houston father who police say fatally shot a 17-year-old boy who was inside his daughter’s bedroom early Thursday morning will likely not be charged, an area prosecutor told MyFoxHouston.com.

Although a grand jury will review the case, prosecutor Warren Diepraam said it is unlikely that the father will be charged.

"What was going on in the person's mind at the time of the shooting, [not] what they found out after the fact" is key, Diepraam said. "They're looking at what he was thinking when he made the decision to shoot."

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and a grand jury will ultimately decide if charges are appropriate. But so far it appears the father, who was only identified as a 55-year-old in reports, was awaken by one of his other children at about 2:20 a.m. He was told someone was in his 16-year-old daughter's bedroom and he grabbed his gun.

He reportedly found the teen in bed with his daughter and confronted him. His daughter apparently told him she did not know the boy.

The father said he told the teen not to move, but reportedly saw the teen reach for something, at which point police say the father opened fire. The teen did not have a gun. His daughter later confessed that she snuck her boyfriend, 17, into the house, the report said.

"We don't know if the father knew him or not,” Sgt. Ben Bell with the Harris County Sheriff's Department, told the station. The family had just moved into the neighborhood.

In 2008, a Harris County grand jury did not indict a homeowner after he fatally shot two burglars in the back, The Houston Chronicle reported. In that case, lawyers told jury members that the shooter feared for his life, hence the act was justifiable under Texas law.

If the kid were black, we could ignore the law and charge him anyway.

I admit, I was curious to see if charges were brought. Sad situation. So many things went wrong.

If this entire rendition of the story that the father didn't know the guy, and the daughter made her dad think the boy was an intruder was in fact true....

I'm going to guess this man feels incredible guilt and remorse for killing a kid. Sadness and failure for raising a fuck-up of a daughter. But in some small capacity he has to know that in that moment, what he did was the same as anyone else would do - stopping someone who looked and sounded to be threatening your daughter. I won't call that heroic because the kid was still unarmed, but it's something.

The father who police said fatally shot a 17-year-old boy in his daughter's bedroom should be charged with murder, the victim's distraught mother says.

Johran McCormick's mother said she can't believe her son was killed while sneaking around with the 16-year–old girl he was apparently dating, the Houston Chronicle reported Saturday.

Zakia McCormick also can't understand why the man accused of firing the fatal shot Thursday is not behind bars.

"If you take a life, you give your life," the newspaper quoted a teary Zakia McCormick as saying. "We're suffering. Why isn't he suffering too?"
She and the teen's father Shawn Curley said the man should be charged with murder and sentenced to life behind bars.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting and has said a grand jury will determine if charges are warranted.
Although a grand jury will review the case, prosecutor Warren Diepraam told MyFoxHouston.com Friday that it is unlikely that the father will be charged.

The father told investigators he heard noises coming from his daughter’s bedroom around 2:30 a.m. He went to investigate and found Johran in the room. The boy was shot once.

Zakia McCormick and Curley told the Chronicle they believe Johran was in bed with the girl when her father came into her bedroom with a gun.

The family said they were told by authorities and others the girl denied she knew Johran—sparking the deadly confrontation.

"I wished the father could have asked more questions, he could have picked up the phone," Curley told the newspaper. "And for her to say she didn't know who he was, that was most hurtful."

Curley said he didn’t believe the shooting was an accident. “You don’t shoot someone in the head on accident,” he said..

The mom said she didn’t even know her son was in Houston at the time. She said he had gone to New Orleans with friends on spring break and wasn’t due to return until Sunday.

She also didn’t know Johran and the girl were dating.

"For him to be in someone else's house at 2:30 in the morning is shocking to us," said Curley.

The family said Johran, a high school junior, was considering enlisting in the Air Force. He also was considering a career as a mechanic.
