And to add to the terror, the venomous huntsman spider was PREGNANT and was carrying a huge egg sac containing a whopping 400 babies.
Nora Serrat had been in the Cameroon rainforest for a two-week holiday and the spider, thankfully not native to the UK, had hitched a ride in her luggage.
The 32-year-old revealed: "It jumped out of the sleeping mat but we captured it with a carton box.
"The equipment was in the back of a car and I think the spider crawled into a sleeping mat.
"Its not an impossible thing to happen considering the places we visited but it was still a bit of a surprise!"
Ms Serrat works for the Rainforest Foundation UK charity, who helped her capture the monster arachnid named Hermione before London Zoo took over her care.

Colleague Rachel Agnew added to the Evening Standard: "When we dropped her off, she was alive and apparently quite feisty.
"They gave her some water and her rather unexpected journey had apparently caused her no harm."
This isn't the first recent case of a huntsman spider being found in Britain.
Last year we reported on one being found at a distribution company in St Leonards-on-Sea, near Hastings, as staff emptied a crate from Taiwan.
The spider had survived an incredible SIX-WEEK journey to the UK before it was discovered.
Huntsmen can grow to huge sizes and have been known to bite defensively but they are not dangerous to humans.
