A DeLand man was arrested for pointing a gun at a teen boy he found in his stepdaughter's bedroom closet, police said.

Timothy Estes, 39, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was also charged with child abuse for slapping the girl and having her do squats and push ups, an arrest report shows.

Volusia County Branch jail records show Estes is currently being held without bail.

According to the charging document, police were called to the Victoria Trails home Tuesday at 12 p.m. where they found the boy outside about 500 feet away from the home.

The 16-year-old boy told police that he was in the 14-year-old girl's bedroom closet charging a cell phone when Estes found him, pointed a gun at him and pressed it to the back of his head as he escorted the boy out of the house, police said.

Estes said to the teen , “You're lucky I don't kill you, next time I see you I am going to kill you,” police said.

The girl said she had invited the boy to the home to hang out with her, police said.

After escorting the boy out of the house, Estes returned to the bedroom, ordered the girl to stand in front of him and slapped her. He gave her a pencil to hold in her pointer fingers and ordered her to do squats, threatening to beat her if she dropped the pencil. He then ordered the girl to do push ups and also threatened to beat her if the push ups were not perfect, police said.

Estes told police he came home from work early and sensed something strange was going on at his home and found a man in the closet and that he got his gun because he feared for his life, the arrest report states.

He said he slapped the girl “because with a 14-year-old you only need to do a little to get the point across,” the report shows.
