Waverly Hills Sanatorium

Waverly Hills Sanatorium is a former tuberculosis hospital in the USA. More than 6,000 people died there. It was opened in 1926 and closed in 1962. Until 1982 it was a facility for the elderly, but was shut down for patient abuse by Kentucky state officials.

Did you know that Mammoth Cave (http://www.nps.gov/maca/historyculture/physicianhealthyself.htm) in Kentucky was once a sanatorium for "pulmonary consumption" – known today as tuberculosis.

It's worse than you think. That's the "death tunnel" where they wheeled the dead on a gurney to be dumped at a facility elsewhere on the grounds. They used to do medical experiments there and ended up killing a bunch of the patients in the process.

A Z-grade movie was made there, btw. It's called Death Tunnel. I believe it was on SyFy. If there ever was a big heaping pile of shit of a movie, that certainly would qualify.
