I justed dumped my FIOS TV and phone package.. So I get that for $67 or $77 bucks a month, including free streaming HBO for 2 years and free locals on the TV.

Upgraded to 150mbps internet service at the new place because there's a great deal on it for the first year, including a high speed router.

The first day or two I got well over what I was paying for, up to 170mpbs and a ping of like 6... but the last week or so I've been getting more like 40 mbps :| Going to have to call and give them shit, and I hate dealing with these pricks...

I have cable internet, it's bundled with my telephone and TV service (which we currently have most of the premium channels like HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc and way too many other channels that you get regardless). We pay $200/month for everything and they just recently raised our internet connection speed from 200 mbps to 250 mbps without raising the price. We could get 1 gig internet in my area, but right now it's just too expensive an upcharge and besides, since we're getting nearly 300 mbps right now, that's more than fast enough for what we do at home.

I'm paying $79 for 50mbps since I dropped cable and no longer have a "bundle" deal. I asked what the next tier down was and it's only 15mbps for 10 bucks less.
Looking into other options right now but it's tough to find anything that doesn't lock me into a contract. If I sell the house in spring I'd be stuck paying the penalty.

I'm paying somewhere around $79 / $89 pm for the slow speeds I get. 100 mbps is available but cost is way too high for my needs.

Australia started a "National Broadband Network" (NBN) project a few years ago where the government promised fibre to the premises for everyone. After an election, the next government changed it to fibre to the node. (a node box that served an area with copper from there to premises). W now have a mix with some users with direct fibre access and other still with a few hundred metres of copper. This has also affected real estate pricing.

The original NBN plan was about $45 billion and was considered too expensive.

What we have for a developed nation is woefully behind many other countries. Our vast size and relatively small population doesn't help.

Sounds similar to my situation Monk, although I'm getting better speeds. Mine is bundled with a landline phone for further 'reductions' :lol:

One thing I will say about the provider and knock on wood...since switching in the summer of 2015, I have yet to experience any sort of slow down or no service times.
The old provider would go out for a few hours or a night at times.

Novus here is a small ISP in Vancouver that supplies newer high rises with fiber-optic service. They just started offer 1gb service with no data cap for $69 the first year. I'm about 14 months into a 2-year contract at the same price for only 150mb service, can't wait to switch.

Holy shit so my ISP just did some upgrading and said if you're paying for 150 service you now get 300. Said to power cycle your modem this week. I figured ya right maybe I'll get a bit of a speed bump... but it fucking worked :shock: :thumbsup:

At home they just boosted me from 100 to 150. At the island they just did an "upgrade" and now I'm getting 1-4mbps instead of the 12 I'm paying for. (satellite internet). Wish I could bottle up some speed from home and take it with me.
