A 42-year-old West Allis man is accused of sending sexual videos to a 14-year-old Texas girl.
Michael A. Gawlitta, who is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on $15,000 bail, has been charged with three counts of causing a child to view or listen to sexual activity. Each count carries a potential prison sentence of six years.
The mother of the Texas teen took her daughter's cellphone Feb. 1 and saw that the teen had been talking to someone named Michael for more than three hours, according to a criminal complaint.
The woman opened a phone messenger application and saw that the man had sent video of himself masturbating and discussing sexual topics, the complaint says. She researched the man's phone number and found his Facebook profile. She reported the incident to the Weslaco Police Department.
The girl told police she began chatting with the man a week earlier. She knew the man had four children and that his wife had died recently, and she said the man knew how old she was.
Gawlitta's wife, Tammy Gawlitta, was killed in a rollover crash on I-43 in Greenfield during a December snowstorm. Soon after the crash, the Greenfield Fire Department, Milwaukee County sheriff's office and Milwaukee Fire Department set up a fund to benefit Gawlitta's family.
