If Queen Elizabeth II dies, what happens to Prince Philip? He retains the title "Prince, Duke of Edinburgh" and then... what?

Assume for a moment that Queen Elizabeth has no heirs (I know, she does, but for argument's sake, let's pretend for the moment that she was barren). How does the line of succession work if she had no children or grandchildren?

What if the entire family line ended with Queen Elizabeth? No heirs as far as thee eye could see? What would happen then? Would the monarchy end?

I honestly do not know. The rules of ascension seem random and hand-picked to me. I hope to be rid of them soon. The monarchy belongs in history books and on Game of Thrones.

if liz dies, phil has to be buried with her

1) not too sure on the title phil wpould have.... probably keep the duke of edinborough title

2) if the queen has no kids, then her next oldest brother/sister would become king/queen

3) a - that's highly improbable.... b - they'll find someone.... c- I'd volunteer

This stuff is almost impossible to trace.

It seems the current House of Windsor is descended from the House of Wettin, who were Germans way back when. It looks like all royal European lineages are currently descended from this House.

Man, this stuff is fascinating.

Why wouldn't he be King Charles III?

From what I'm reading, he could be, if he outlives his mother. He's first in the line of succession. If she dies, he'll succeed her, unless he abdicates to William. But it doesn't look like Liz is gonna die anytime soon, nor will she abdicate for Charles. It's entirely possible that she outlives him, leaving William to succeed his grandmother.

There was something about people not being very fond of him when he and Diana divorced, but I don't think that effects the line of succession.

From everything Charles has said, either outright or not, he really doesn't want the throne, so I think William will be the next one after Elizabeth.

So is The Mirror a reputable newspaper?

Strange that she'd write a note detailing the accident and we've never heard of the letter before now :-k
