A gang-related drive-by shooting in the River North neighborhood left four people others wounded early Sunday morning, among at least 19 people injured, two of them fatally, by gunfire since 11 a.m. Saturday.

The most recent shooting involved a 29-year-old man shot and killed about 7:15 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of East 81st Street in the East Chatham neighborhood on the South Side, according to Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada. The man suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head, Estrada said. He was identified as Jabari Davis who lived in the same block where he was killed, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

No other details were available on the shooting, Estrada said, but Area South detectives are investigating.

The River North shooting happened in the 500 block of West Erie Street about 3:10 a.m. At least one person in a passing sedan opened fire after shouting gang slogans toward the four, who police say are also gang members.

Police initially said a 20-year-old man died and three others were taken to area hospitals with gunshot wounds -- a 21-year-old man shot in the torso and arm, a 20-year-old shot in the right foot and a 19-year-old in the left shoulder. The Cook County medical examiner's office was not notified the man had died, however, and police said Sunday night that the 20-year-old was in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Area Central detectives are investigating the shooting and no one is in custody.

The second person killed overnight was a 23-year-old man who was shot about 3:15 a.m. in the 400 block of North Leclaire Avenue in the Austin neighborhood. The man had been in an argument with someone else who shot him in the abdomen and arm. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, police said, and he died there.

He was identified as Terrance McNeal of the 400 block of Lemington Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

About 1:15 a.m. Sunday, a 25-year-old man was shot in the buttocks near Pulaski Road and Erie Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. He was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Earlier, a 17-year-old boy was shot about 11:10 p.m. walking walking on 87th Street just east of Greenwood Avenue in the Burnside neighborhood on the South Side. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. Police blocked traffic while crowds cleared out and kids at a nearby roller rink waited for rides home.

Two teenagers and a man were shot about 9:25 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Merrill Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood, police said. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the left foot and his condition had been stabilized at South Shore Hospital; another 17-year-old suffered a graze wound to the head, and his condition was stabilized at Stroger; and a 21-year-old man suffered a wound to the right armpit, and was treated and released from Stroger.

The three were walking north on Merrill on the east side of the street when two male attackers came up and shot them, police said.

Another shooting near the intersection of 52nd Street and Ashland Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, left a 17-year-old boy shot around 8:30 p.m. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with a wound to the buttocks.

About 6:51 p.m., also on the South Side, a 23-year-old was shot at 87th Street and Escanaba Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood. Someone who opened fire from inside a passing SUV shot the man in the leg, police said. Paramedics took the man to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

A 38-year-old man was grazed in the face about 3:40 p.m. at 69th Street and Harvard Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. He was treated at the scene and his condition had been stabilized.

Someone shot a 17-year-old boy about 2:10 p.m. in the city's Wrightwood neighborhood on the Southwest Side in another possibly gang-related shooting, authorities said. The teen had been shot in the 8200 block of South Kedzie Avenue and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious-to-critical condition, Chicago Fire Department authorities said. News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney said their information indicated the victim is 20, and he was outside when the shooter, who was on foot, fired shots and struck the victim. The assailant fled.

A possible gang-related attack took place about 1:50 p.m. in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said. The victim, a 15-year-old boy, was shot in the left arm and both thighs by one or more assailants who emerged from an alley in the 2200 block of South Christiana Avenue, Sweeney said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, Sweeney said. Area Central detectives are investigating the attack.

In another attack, someone shot two men about 12:40 p.m. in the 2000 block of West 79th Street in the city's Gresham neighborhood, according to police. Officers responded to a shots fired call and found a 22-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds and a 25-year-old man shot in the arm and leg, said News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic. Fire department authorities said both men were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, one in serious-to-critical condition and the other in fair-to-serious condition.

Earlier, about 11 a.m. in the West Englewood neighborhood during a gang-related attack, a 20-year-old man was shot, Sedevic said. The victim was on the sidewalk in the 5500 block of South Hoyne Avenue when an unknown assailant in a dark-colored car fired shots in his direction and he was hit in the lower right leg, Sedevic said. The man shot was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, according to fire department authorities. The Hoyne shooting "appears to be gang-related,'' Sedevic said, adding no one has been arrested. Area South detectives are investigating but the victim is not cooperating with them, according to the officer.

We should heavily restrict gun ownership in Chicago to address these problems!
