A 17-year-old girl says she was kicked out of her homeschool prom because some lecherous dads complained that she was arousing "impure thoughts."

In a guest post on her sister's blog, a Richmond, Va., high school senior named Clare related how one of the women organizing the dance disapproved of her dress, even after checking it met the "fingertip length" dress code requirement. When she got into the ballroom, Clare, who is 5'9", was amused to find herself surrounded by shorter girls in much shorter dresses.

On a balcony above the dance floor, a group of dads was, she said "ogling and talking amongst themselves," which grossed out Clare and her friends a little bit.

After the kids had been "swaying with the music and talking and enjoying ourselves" for a while, the same chaperone who had complained about Clare's dress pulled her aside to tell her that some of the dads felt her dancing was "too provocative" and liable to cause "impure thoughts."

Clare protested that she hadn't even been dancing, and was told once again that her regulation finger-length dress was too short. She was kicked out of the dance, and her friends decided to go with her.

The dance organizers said they would refund the group's tickets, but only Clare got her money back, even after some of her friends' parents called to ask about it.

In her post, Clare asks the Richmond Homeschool Prom to "refund my group as they verbally promised to do, and issue an apology for kicking me out of my senior prom because their husbands felt as though my body was something they had a right to control."

"I'm not responsible for some perverted 45 year old dad lusting after me because I have a sparkly dress on and a big ass for a teenager," she concludes. "And if you think I am, then maybe you're part of the problem."

The administrators of the prom's Facebook group don't seem to be swayed. They got so many negative comments about the incident that they gave up on deleting all of them and shut down the page instead.

Does anyone find it odd that the only source on this is gawker, no school is named, and no responses from the school or parents seem available?

Maybe I just didn't look hard enough.

Sorry, not buying it. The premise of this story is based on her "disgust" at the adult male chaperones. A female chaperone supposedly said that "some of the dads who were chaperoning had complained". Privately. Just to her. Yet, none of the males were directly involved in this at all. This point is further evidenced by the blog post [that started all this] being titled "Fuck the Patriarchy" and includes these gems:

When I saw her Facebook status about it (which used the particularly perfect phrase “rape culture activists”), I asked if she wanted to share her story with you here

Not so much because it was something that did permanent damage to me, but because it is something I have seen happen over, and over and over to people I love and care for very much, and on what better day then mother’s day could I make a stand for the mothers, and the sisters, and the daughters and the friends who have been victims of this painful, traumatizing evil.

And goddamn it, I am so tired of people who abuse their power to make women feel violated and ashamed because she has an ass, or has breasts, or has long legs.

I am sure her perspective was not at all tainted by her older sister's view of the evils of Patriarchy.

From her blog post entitled I need feminism because Mean Girls is 10 years old and my sister has a concussion

Her sister got beat up by another girl at school. Man, girls are getting more violent. Wait, what? No? It was the fault of the Patriarchal system? Oh, wow, I feel so unenlightened!! [/sarcasm]

They’re perpetuating the system established by patriarchy where men are sexual creatures who do not bear the consequences for their the waves left in their wake. They act, women clean up. They expand themselves socially, we cover for them and accommodate. The boys aren’t satisfied with their girlfriends? Their girlfriends don’t challenge them or break up with them out of self-respect; they attack my sister, because they see her as a threat. They see her as a threat because we have been socialized to see other women as competition for men, not comrades at arms in the struggle for respect, equality, and autonomy.

Excelent work..

Im going to make my conclusion now after seeing your new evidence...

1. You wont find a school name, this was the home schooled kids prom.

2. A lot of people around here home school for different reasons. One of those reasons is separation from what they feel is wrong with society.. Its not the dress they are complaining about... Its her looking good in it and showing up with a black guy.

Interestingly, the date has stated that he didn't think it was racially motivated. But the girl herself said other girls had shorter skirts and were grinding on their dates. It does make me wonder as well, Muddy.

You know as well as I do.. ANY mention about the race mixing and the whole ordeal would have had Sharpton down here doing sit-ins and people losing jobs.. There are just things in this society you can't safely talk about without serious repercussions.

A week after a Virginia teenager made headlines for claiming she was kicked out of her senior prom for homeschool students because dads were “ogling” her and her prom dress caused boys to think “impure thoughts,” a chaperone at the dance is speaking out against the teen.

Clare Ettinger wrote a post on her sister’s blog about the May 10 dance, saying that she was asked to leave the Richmond Homeschool Prom because of her provocative dress and dancing.

Clare says that her skirt was within dress code, falling below her fingertips, and that she wasn’t even dancing when she was kicked out.

But Ann Duncan, who volunteered at the dance, told WTVR that she saw Clare’s dress and disputed that it was long enough and denies that the dads were ogling her.

She says even though Clare’s dress met the “fingertip length” requirement when she arrived, the stretchy spandex caused it to ride up as the event continued.

"It was right below her butt cheeks by the time I saw her," Duncan, whose children are also home-schooled, said.

Duncan also argued against Clare’s comments that dad chaperones on a balcony were staring at her, because the dance was too crowded.

"There were 500 kids there so to be able to even say what they were looking at would have been very difficult,” she told the TV station.

Clare and her boyfriend, James, responded in a new YouTube video that “When the lady kicked me out, they said the dads complained about my dancing and that meant that they had to have been watching me.”

"The dads did make me uncomfortable at the prom," she said, "Because there were so many of them, and they were doing nothing but sitting there watching everybody.”

But she doesn’t think they meant any harm, saying in the video: "I don't personally think the dads were sitting there being perverts.”

Clare, James, and the group of friends who walked out of the prom with them in support have not received refunds they were promised.

I dunno, I just stood up and saw where my fingertips were, and if I had a daughter she would not be going to the prom in a dress like that. fingertips and that will ride up to her ass in 5 seconds dancing.

we had the same rule for girls in my second high school...it was in a fancy neighborhood so the sluts would usually dress up for class

agreeing with FBD, some girl's fingertips reached further down than others
