A Texas man faces a possible life sentence for making and selling marijuana brownies.

Authorities in Round Rock charged 19-year-old Jacob Lavoro with a first-degree felony because he used hash oil to make the brownies.

Texas law allows the state to factor sugar, cocoa, and other ingredients to determine the weight of the drug.

“I’ve been doing this 22 years as a lawyer and I’ve got 10 years as a police officer and I’ve never seen anything like this before,” said Lavoro’s attorney, Jack Holmes.

“Five years to life?” said Joe Lavoro. “I’m sorry. I’m a law-abiding citizen. I’m a conservative. I love my country. I’m a Vietnam veteran, but I’ll be damned. This is wrong. This is damn wrong!”

Holmes said the charge would be a misdemeanor if the baked goods weren’t included in the weight.

“If he did something wrong, he should be punished — but to the extent that makes sense,” said Joe Lavoro. “This is illogical. I’m really upset, and I’m frightened, I’m frightened for my son.”
