...and it's worse up here in Vancouver. They used a simpler formula on the chart below, but see how bad SanFran is? We're worse for sure.

BUT, live in the 'burbs here and it goes down considerably. When I bought my townhouse about 17 years ago, I could have lived in a rural place with a farm for the same cash but I chose to live where I live.

I could rent out my place for $1200 fairly easily.

Notice, 90% of those cities are shit holes, and about 6 of them were former murder capitols. ;)

San Fran average at $679,000 is basically average for a distant suburb here sadly. There was a news article about a $3 million house in central Vancouver that sold in one day and is slated for demolition (http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/05/13/vancouver-house-that-sold-for-3-million-in-one-day-now-faces-bulldozer-because-it-is-too-small/)... it's not commercially zoned or abnormally large. It's fucked up here  Don't get me wrong, some of the reason is because it's a truly beautiful and unique city in terms of the urban planning, culture, climate, mountains and oceans, etc..... but the amount of foreign wealth from China is staggering and is a huge cause of the issue.

I see it directly in my line of work. I get approached by brokers about dozens of houses a week bought in the name of the housewife while the husband stays overseas and works. Million dollar homes bulldozed and rebuilt because they're over 25-years old, the money is just not a factor. I won't be able to start a family here sadly, which sucks because I've been to a lot of cities and this is still my favorite.
