AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

A young woman who fell asleep on railroad tracks in Auburn walked away unscathed after a train passed over, police say.

Several people called police Wednesday morning to report a woman was hit by an oncoming train at a railroad crossing between Ross and Gay Street. When officers arrived, they found 22-year-old Lynsey Horne of Salem still asleep on the tracks even after a train passed over her. Auburn's Police Chief is calling the incident a miracle.

"You can certainly call it a miracle. Based on the fact the train was only two engines and a car, in was not a long freight train. Plus, because of her small build and stature she was able to lay in a way that she was not stuck by the train or hit by another object from the train. She is very, very fortunate to not have been injured," Captain Lorneza Dorsey.

Horne was arrested by the Auburn police department and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct. She has been booked at the Lee County Detention Facility.

Investigators are still trying to determine how Horne wandered onto the tracks and apparently went to sleep or passed out.
