I would have to say vomit...human puke. Just a whiff of it makes me want to add to the pile.

What's the most unpleasant smell to you (that you have experienced, not just some chemical compound you looked up on Wikipedia).

I used to work at an animal health center as a computer tech. Really, it's a government facility where they do autopsies on animals to find cause of death. The guys who prepped the animals were quite ghoulish...they'd call me with a printer problem just when the grossest things were coming in.

Without exception...a whale. One section of it was at the facility and it cleared the building of 200 people within minutes.

Thankfully I have a bad sense of smell, made worse of course by working there for years.

After smelling all those things, human vomit isn't all that bad. If my wife or kid gets sick, I can handle it!

Rotting animal is about enough to make me puke.

But before I even smell puke if I see someone puke, that can almost make me puke at times

One of the worst trips ever is a boat out of Long Beach that goes to Catalina Island, its only maybe an hour trip. But, half the boat got seasick and started puking everywhere. Which started causing other people to puke, it was horrible.

Lovely, FBD! Yep - as bad as that looks!

I remember the true story they'd tell about a whale that washed ashore in Oregon -- the highways department didn't know what to do and Oregon at that time didn't have a government body to deal with the carcass. So they got the bright idea to dynamite it.

Well, you saw what happened when you just cut it open. Add to that some TNT... reportedly there was a cheer at first when it seemed that it blew it into little pieces. But no -- then reality set in as the realization that some of the pieces hurled into the air by the explosion were now raining to earth were as big as Volkswagens! :D I believe no one was hurt but a few cars in the parking lot were totalled.

And how did you get to experience this? Did you work for emergency services or something?

Night market a few years ago in Taipei City. Walked by a street vendor frying something in a wok. Best way I can describe it is, it smelled like frying white rolls, literally

I think the absolute worst smell I've experienced was the paper mill that used to be around here. If the wind was blowing just right, it would carry the sulfur smell that left the mill right into our area. People said it smelled like rotten eggs, but to my knowledge, rotten eggs never smelled that bad.

Funny this thread pops up... I hit a skunk carcass with my car the other night. Fucking brutal. It doesn't smell like skunk anymore at that point, it's like a chemical fire and it burns your nostrils.

Can't get within 3-feet of the car without gagging almost 48 hours later. My suit I was wearing at the time is currently hanging outside in hopes of getting the stink up (keep in mind, I was IN the car and it permeated through)....

You're gonna need to go shopping for a new suit and a new car.
