ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Pakistani government has condemned two strikes by American drones that have killed 13 suspected militants and marked the resumption of the CIA-led program after a nearly six-month break.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Thursday that the strikes are a violation of Pakistani sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Pakistani officials said missiles from suspected American drones slammed into militant hideouts in the North Waziristan tribal areas in two separate incidents on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
The strikes were the first since Christmas.
Due to stricter rules on the use of drones, diplomatic sensitivities and the changing nature of the al-Qaida threat, American drone strikes have dwindled in Pakistan.
