A 3-year-old girl recovering from a severe pit bull attack was allegedly asked to leave a Jackson, Mississippi KFC because her face was scaring customers.

Victoria Wilcher's family was outraged by the alleged incident and took to Facebook to share their mistreatment.

"Does this face look scary to you?" read a post published Thursday on Victoria's Victories Facebook page, which has been documenting the little girl's recovery. "Last week at KFC in Jackson MS this precious face was asked to leave because her face scared the other diners."

The attack happened in April while Victoria was visiting her grandfather's mobile home in Simpson County, Mississippi. Three pit bulls burst into the home and mauled Victoria, covering her body with injuries head to toe. Victoria's grandfather, Donald Mullins, fatally shot two of the dogs, WAPT reports. Mullins and his girlfriend, Rita Tompkins, were later arrested on child endangerment charges.

According to a post on her Facebook recovery page, Victoria lost her right eye in the attack and sustained a broken upper and lower jaw, a broken nose, and smashed cheekbones. She also lost the ability to move the right side of her face.

"The right side of her face is paralyzed. She's got a lot of surgeries to go through and she won't even look in the mirror anymore," Victoria's grandmother, Kelly Mullins, told local news outlet 16 WAPT News. "When we go to a store, she doesn't even want to get out [of the car]. She's 3 years old and she's embarrassed about what she looks like. She's embarrassed and I hate it because she shouldn't be. It ain't her fault."

KFC spokesman Rick Maynard told WAPT in an email that "KFC launched an investigation as soon as we were made aware of this report. We take this very seriously, as we have zero tolerance for any kind of hurtful or disrespectful actions toward our guests. Our investigation is ongoing, but we will make things right for this beautiful little girl and her family, and will work with the franchisee to take appropriate action at the restaurant."

On Friday, Victoria's family posted a message to Facebook that read: "KFC has reached out for more information thanks to the overwhelming support for Victoria. Thank you for sharing her story and please continue to pray for her and her recovery. She still has several surgeries in her future and will continue to need our love and support."

My statement stands.

Mean people raise mean dogs.

-edit-

I'll elaborate a little.

My father would never be so stupid as to knowingly have or raise dogs that would bite someone. Nor would he ever put a child, any child, in any possible scenario that would cause them harm.

A family who claimed their disfigured little girl was asked to leave a branch of KFC have been accused of making up the whole story.

Relatives of three-year-old Victoria Wilcher, who was badly injured when she was mauled by three of her own family's pitbulls, claimed that KFC staff ordered her grandmother to take her out of a restaurant in Jackson, Mississippi, because she was "scaring other customers".

A public outcry over the report led to donations totalling $135,000 as well as gifts and offers of free surgery for Victoria, who lost an eye and was badly scarred in the dog attack. KFC apologised and pledged $30,000 while they investigated the claim.

After the story went viral online, staff at two KFC branches in Jackson faced death threats, verbal harassment and had drinks thrown at them through the drive-through window. One employee said it was no longer safe to wear his staff uniform in public.

But now a source connected to the fast food chain has told the local Leader-Call newspaper that no such incident took place.

CCTV recordings show no one resembling Victoria or her grandmother Kelly Mullin in either branch on the day in question, and the food order Ms Mullins claimed to have made – mashed potatoes, gravy and sweet tea – was not recorded on any of the tills.

And Dick West, whose company owns the local KFC franchises, posted on Facebook: "When the allegation was first made, KFC pledged $30,000 to go to medical expenses and started an investigation to find the truth.

"They have pledged the money even if it is proven that the incident never happened. At this point their story is full of holes. Any thinking person who follows their timeline can see it. The event at KFC never happened."

The source added: "We have seen some really really sick people come to the restaurant from the hospital close by. We've had people come in who were shot in the face. We've had them with tubes and wire sticking out. We never have asked anyone to leave."

KFC said in a statement: "We continue to take this report seriously, and of course have great sympathy for Victoria and her family.

"Since we have so far not been able to verify the incident in our internal investigation, we have also hired a third-party consultant to conduct an independent investigation to help us resolve this matter."

A lawyer representing Kelly Mullins refused to comment on the new claims and said the family had not yet decided whether to accept the cash offer from KFC.

Victoria was attacked in April by three of her grandfather's pitbulls after they burst through the door of the trailer where he lives, according to the Clarion-Ledger newspaper.

She lost her right eye and suffered a broken jaw, nose, and cheekbones plus facial scarring.

The fundraising website GoFundMe has taken down a page devoted to raising money for a 3-year-old Mississippi girl whose family claims she was asked to leave a KFC restaurant because customers were repulsed by facial injuries she suffered in a recent pit bull attack.

"In lieu of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the 'Victoria's Victories' online fundraising effort, GoFundMe has temporarily suspended the campaign until the full truth is made clear," CEO Brad Damphousse said in a statement released Tuesday. The site has also offered refunds to donors.

The statement was the latest twist in a controversy that began when a Facebook post from 3-year-old Victoria Wilcher's grandmother went viral. In the post, Kelly Mullins said that she and Victoria had been asked to leave a Jackson KFC restaurant on May 15 by an employee who said the girl's face was "disrupting our customers."

Victoria and her grandmother had just come from an appointment at a nearby hospital to treat injuries the girl had suffered in April while visiting her grandfather's home the previous month. Victoria has already undergone three surgeries to repair a broken nose and cheekbones, a shattered jaw and a damaged right eye socket. The right side of her face was paralyzed and she lost her right eye.

The story prompted donations to pour in to Victoria's family, along with at least one offer of free plastic surgery. However, on Monday, a local paper cast doubt on the family's story, calling it a "Kentucky Fried Hoax."

The paper reported that surveillance video did not show anyone matching the description of Victoria or her grandmother at either of two KFCs near the hospital. In addition, a check of restaurant receipts failed to find an order matching what Mullins supposedly ordered for her granddaughter.

Before the GoFundMe page was suspended, 2,893 donors had given $132,515 toward Victoria's treatment. KFC has said it has found no evidence the incident occurred, but would still honor its pledge to donate $30,000 toward Victoria's medical bills.

Victoria's family has so far stood by their story, although a Facebook page called "Victoria's Victories" has been taken down. The family's attorney released a statement earlier this week in which he did not directly address the claim that his clients had perpetrated a hoax, but appealed for sympathy on behalf of the little girl.

"It is deeply disappointing that other parties have taken opportunity to attack Victoria through social and news media outlets," attorney Bill Kellum said in a statement. "Victoria is an innocent child with very real physical and emotional scars. The focus of her family and ours has always been, and will always be on Victoria and making her whole again."
