MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI — The images captured on two Muskegon County Sheriff's Office cruiser videos are startling: A shirtless man carrying a 4-foot metal pipe charges one of the cruisers with a large pipe in hand before being thrown onto the windshield of the vehicle.
Authorities said Deputy Thomas Johnson had no time to react to the shirtless man who charged the cruiser, was thrown on top of the hood of the vehicle, and then bounced off the windshield before getting back on his feet – seemingly uninjured.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 22 in the 3000 block of Duff Road in Dalton Township, said Muskegon County Sheriff's Office Road Patrol Lt. Shane Brown.
Brown said the man, later identified as Calquan Dion Burr, appeared to be "under the influence of mind-altering drugs."
The deputies were called out to the Dalton Township area that night on the report of a prowler in the 3000 block Duff Road. Police received at least two reports of a man trying to open doors in the neighborhood.
When one witness confronted the man prior to his collision with the police cruiser, the witness said the man was talking "gibberish and could not be understood," according to a deputy's report.
The witness said the man appeared to be "drunk or high and was talking about seeing blue orbits."
Following the cruiser incident, the man was taken into custody after a deputy pointed a stun gun at him and ordered him to the ground. Following his arrest, Burr told the deputies that he didn't know what he was doing, saying that he could have "tackled that car and could have crushed it if he wanted to," according to the police report.
"He also claimed he was from the Planet Zoltron and that his father sent him," the report said.
He refused treatment from Pro Med officials at the scene and appeared to have abrasions on his back from the windshield, the report indicated.
Burr is expected to be arraigned later Thursday, June 26, in Muskegon County 60th District Court. The police report indicates that he had two warrants out for his arrest at the time of Sunday's incident -- one out of Hesperia and another for failing to register as a sex offender, second-offense habitual offender.
A warrant had been signed, according to court records, for new charges. He was lodged in the Muskegon County Jail on malicious destruction of property, damaging police property, assault and other charges.
