British death metal band Unfathomable Ruination will squeeze themselves and their instruments into a sealed iron cube and play an “intense and brutal” set until they run out of air.

The performance art is part of internationally recognized Portuguese artist João Onofre’s touring sculpture titled Box Sized Die.

“In each location the sculpture travels to, Onofre invites a local death metal band to play, on this occasion Unfathomable Ruination,” says the City of London’s official website. “The box is soundproofed, determining and restricting the performance’s duration to the length of time in which the oxygen is expended. Outside the cube, viewers observe its strange vibrations, only viewing the band’s entrance and exit to the performance space.”

My thoughts exactly, Goofy.

But isn't their name typically British? Proporting to be tough head bangers, they call themselves the multi-syllabic "Unfathomable Ruination". :giggle:

They probably watch Dr. Who. And lust after Allyson Hannigan.

I like metal, but not into this kind much. Give me Lamb of God and Slayer all day

I can listen to all sorts of music...every time I've heard death metal I hear FBD's description, it offends my ears and I turn it off or get away from it

Weird fkd up singers piss me off to no end.

Was doing some mixing on the band we just recorded last week...so much fkn talent there, drums, guitar, bass...

then *cringe* nick wtf are you doing, some of that sounds like a fkn sonic LRAD weapon designed to incapacitate humans and put them into a fetal position.

I'm lucky though, because I can just take and burn CDs of the mixes that have no vocals :haha:

dude half the time I'm just sitting there thinking "I've got at least 2/3rds, half an octave, I can do a way better job"....but its of course not the engineer's position to say such a thing to a client

I sang karaoke and then got invited to sing with a garage band one year...had lots of fun but also realized it takes a lot of talent (and breath) to be a good singer

gained a whole new respect for that job...

good feedback is important - a lot of times just belting stuff out in the car you dont hear yourself well enough to know how sharp or flat you are  good vocal booth/mic and good mix dialed up in the headphones makes it a hell of a lot easier!

at one point (about the third time I sang with them thru a mic) I lost my voice and all that came out of the PA was sounds of air

it was like when you're at a concert and screaming all night, the next day your voice is gone....it happened in midsong and my voice didn't come back for two days after..
