Even as a Brit, I'm happy for people to gain their independence. Canada, Aus... Feel free to give our Queen the finger when you're ready

Most Canadians don't harbor any ill-will to Britain. When the Queen and Chuckles visit, we treat them well....like royalty at times

I believe our bid for independence was a lot less bloody than the Americans, with both sides more amiable to the arrangement

So I just watched the Chicago Fireworks on TV. It was nice, albeit shorter than the Macy's NYC show.

But there were two interesting song choices.

The first song on when I changed to that channel was God Bless America.....

... sung by Celine Dion.

"God bless America, my home sweet home." :canada:

Later there was a Toby Keith song. The caption said "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue"

My face contorted a bit. I knew the song but thought is was called "The Angry American" and written about retaliation for 9/11.

The name is both, but yes, angry retaliation is the theme.

"Courtesy Of The Red, White, And Blue (The Angry American)"

.
.
.
Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flyin’ in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shakin’ her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it’s gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin’ her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you’ll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
`Cause we`ll put a boot in your ass
It`s the American way
.
.
.

""cause we'll put a boot in your ass, it's the American way." :-s

Hmmm... not sure that embodies Independence day. I am also not sure the people selecting the songs were paying much attention to context.

TV, BBQ, then down to the waterfront to get on a boat and watch the fireworks from the water.

Then the traffic bottleneck crawl to get back home. Usually takes me 10 minutes to get home from the waterfront. Took me 45 minutes this year.

Oh, and Joey Chestnut wins his 8th straight Nathan's 4th of July hotdog eating contest. Took down 61 dogs.

rained most of the day yesterday....night, PERFECT for fireworks....clear, bit of a breeze, ground wet as hell. damn near my entire town was going apeshit last night, it was great. there must have been at least 20 different groups of people lighting shit off just in our neighborhood alone. eventually at like 11:30 the fire marshall drove all over town with his little sad sounding stfu siren

we shot off probably 25 mortars of varying sizes, a few the size of my wrist that were pretty good (from the mad minute) but the tube they gave for the little triple bangers didnt really fit all that well and looked like it only shot em up 100 feet  and that cake (the free one, at that) was pretty impressive too.

(so now we still have like 3 cakes and another 20 mortars to go  )

and then, we took four m-1000s...
