The van driver was stopped by police in Northampton and he apparently told them that one sock was off because he'd used it to wipe his bum in the middle of a field.
The Roads Policing Unit posted the bizarre claims on Twitter.
They wrote: "Driver of this van is just being booked into custody.
"For some reason he only has one sock on.
"Van driver states that he only has one sock on because he used the other to wipe his backside in a field."
The man, who was also suspected of driving without insurance, was stopped from driving any further and is expected to be charged, according to Northampton Chronicle and Echo.
