LAWRENCE – When confronted by Secret Service agents, Stephen Perrotti said he wasn't going to lie and admitted to threatening U.S. President Barack Obama, according to police.

One threat specifically threatened "I am going to kill Obama even if it takes a lifetime," a prosecutor said yesterday.

Perrotti, 28, of 118 Byron Ave., was arraigned Friday in Lawrence District Court on nine criminal firearms charges associated with this threats against Obama.

He was ordered held without bail on the charges, which led to police seizing an AR-15 assault rifle, three scopes and four high-capacity magazines and ammunition, according to police and court records.

Secret Service agents, along with Lawrence police, went Perrotti's home on Thursday. According to a police report, Perrotti said "from the outset he wasn't going to lie and yes, he made some threats to the President through Twitter ..."

Perrotti said he wasn't sure of the "time line" of the threats, however.

A search of the social media site Twitter revealed several accounts Perrotti may have used. On one account, a man identified as Stephen Perrotti is described as "just a jobless 26-year-old with the mindset of genius." On the accounts, Stephen Perrotti repeatedly tweets at Obama, swearing at him, criticizing decisions or calling for him to be impeached.

On Thursday, Perrotti told the agents and police they could search the Byron Avenue home where he lives with his mother, Lori Distasio. Distasio also gave authorities permission to search her home, noting she was "disturbed" her son was in possession of any weapons.

"Also Mrs. Distasio expressed concern for her son's mental health, indicating she has done her best to get him help," according to a report by Lawrence Detective Thomas Burke.

Police subsequently searched the home and seized an AR-15 assault rifle, high-capacity magazines and ammunition, according to Burke's report.

Perrotti was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm without an FID card, illegal possession of a large capacity firearm, improper storage of large capacity firearm, illegal possession of a ammunition without an FID card, illegal possession of an assault weapon and four counts of illegal possession of a large capacity firearm or feeding device.

Prosecutor Anna Zalewski asked that Perrotti be held without bail pending a hearing to determine if he's a danger to the community and others. Judge Lynn Rooney granted her request and scheduled a dangerousness hearing for Aug. 8.
