I teased Lance about pan frying steaks at one time (because he couldn't BBQ at his old place) .....but seriously, up here if someone throws a steak in a pan, with oil or not, the pitchforks and torches tend to come out

we used to broil them in the oven on the highest rack...that was a good alternative to frying

we've always pulled our meat out in the morning ( :naughty:) and then let it thaw on the counter over the course of 4 or 5 hours. No problemo when cooking, ever

Marinate over night in red wine.

3 minutes on one side, 5 on other, done.

Then you missed the best part. He cooked it in an oven after the pan of oil. FFS!

:slap: Steaks should be fried and only fried :nono: Put some cooking oil on your hand and rub it into both sides of the steak, get the pan nice and hot then throw the fucker in....... give it 30 secs then flip it...... then turn down the heat and fry it to your desired finish (medium rare for me).

This is Scotland, it rains for 355 days a year - barbeque's are kinda infrequent.......... and i stand by my initial statement, any grilling of steak will cause moisture loss [-(

Never ever ever stab the meat. Use tongs to flip it over.

You can pan fry the steak in a cast iron skillet to sear it and then throw it in the oven to cook it to your desired finish. Or you could throw it into the broiler and cook it at a ridiculously high heat (1800 degrees or so) (with butter, like they do at Ruth Chris's Steakhouse... the best damn steak I've ever had thus far). Or you could throw it on the grill if you wish... or if you're really hardcore, throw it in the smoker for about 12 hours like real barbecue is done.

Any way you choose, it should be room temperature when you start cooking it.

Omg do they brainwash the entire population over there?

If you've ever eaten a proper BBQ'ed steak with sauce, things like pan frying it will seem like an abomination.

But if that's what you prefer, it is going into your pie hole I suppose

Gotta side with Hugh on this one, I don't care how you prefer to cook a steak, if you put ketchup on it before you eat it, then your argument is immediately invalidated :hand:

Ketchup goes on french fries, burgers, and hot dogs, not steaks :nono:

The only thing that comes close to being as bad as putting ketchup on a steak is ruining it by cooking it to well done. Might as well just eat an old boot.

what you put on before or after isn't the issue...

straight up Kevin if you have the choice - Grilled or pan fried steak? The choice is clear to me.

:wrong:

You could have the most expensive and tender and succulent piece or prime beef that was ever known to man and you could have cooked it in the ancient ways of the long dead society that worshiped the almighty steak...and none of that will matter if you ruin it with ketchup treating it like a common hamburger.

:wha:

Therefore, you lose....if you are going to ruin a good steak, who the hell cares how it's cooked? Might as well toss it in a clothes dryer at high temp if all you are gonna do is ruin it in the end.

Everybody else > Hal
