NEW YORK, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- A YouTube prankster in New York wants people to put down their smartphones, or at least use them for something other than selfies.

"What is going on with the selfie craze?" asks writer and self-described "rockstar" Jena Kingsley.

People can't stop taking pictures of their own face! Someone needs to do something about it, and today that someone is going to be me! See what happens when I set up no selfie zones in NYC!

Posing as a generic security guard -- which, at the very least, falls into a legal gray area -- Kingsley posted red and white signs claiming to ban selfies in certain areas and accosted New Yorkers and tourists in the midst of public vanity, threatening them with tickets and demanding they delete their pictures.

Considering selfies are killing people in Portugal, Kingsley might have an early jump on the next big legislative battleground.

Kingsley's other Candid Camera-style pranks include pretending to bounce the entrance of a Starbucks based on a guest list and pole dancing on the subway.
