Getting a dressing down in the courtroom is nothing new.

And a lawyer who put ribbons and badges on his robes has been slammed by a judge for dressing like "something out of Harry Potter".

Attorney Alan Blacker - who goes by the name of Dr. The Right Honourable The Lord Harley of Counsel of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem - was told off and warned never to dress in court like that again.

Judge David Wynn Morgan said Blacker's clothes were unbecoming for "south Wales," where the incident took place.

"Here in South Wales we had a barrister who later became a judge who had won during the Battle of Normandy the highest order of gallantry in a Victoria Cross. Did you ever see him wearing a medal? He would have considered it the height of vulgarity for such a thing to be done," thundered the judge.

Blacker said he was "hurt deeply" by the judge's comments, reports Metro.

To round off his bad day in court, Blacker's client was jailed for five years after being found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.
