Editor’s note: The family asked FOX8 to share the video to make other parents aware of bullying.

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — A teenager with autism who participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge became the target of bullies, which police are investigating.

“Once we found out about it, we were just horrified,” his mother said.

She said a group of juveniles dumped feces, urine, spit, and cigarette butts on her youngest son.

“I want these kids held accountable for what they did to him and they targeted somebody who just didn’t really understand what was going on,” she said.

Video of the incident was found on the boy’s cellphone, and the family wants it made public.

“I mean, the first thing that popped into my mind was like, why could someone – how could someone do this?” said Jacob. “How could someone really be this cruel to someone?”

The video shows the boy standing in a driveway, wearing only his underwear as a bucket’s contents are poured from above. But instead of ice water, the bucket allegedly held bodily fluids and cigarette butts.

“He was embarrassed because he did not know what the contents were until afterwards and then he didn’t want anybody to know,” said his mom. “They used his phone to tape it and they put it up on Instagram.”

“This is just too far. It’s really bad,” the boy’s brother said.

A detective with the Bay Village Police Department says criminal charges could be filed.

“It’s disturbing to watch, you can obviously tell that somebody has been taking advantage of there,” Det. Kevin Krolkosky said.

He added it’s not a prank, but possibly a crime, and the juveniles who did it could face delinquency charges.

“Obviously, if possible, we do want to hold those individuals accountable for their actions,” Krolkosky said.

The police investigation is still in its early stages, and although investigators say they have a good idea who was involved, it may take a few weeks for charges to be filed.

“The bucket challenge is supposed to be raising awareness for this disease and now they’ve turned it into a sick joke,” said the victim’s mom. “I just can’t understand why kids would do something this cruel.”

The boy’s parents wanted the video released so other parents might have a conversation with their kids about how to treat people.

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio – Actor and comedian Drew Carey offered to help Bay Village police find the perpetrators behind a prank played on an autistic teenager.

Via Twitter, Carey said that if the police want to start a reward fund to find the people who organized the prank, he would donate $10,000 to it.

Carey, a Cleveland native, followed up by saying if police found the pranksters without a reward, he would donate to Autism Speaks.

The 14-year-old boy's mother found a cell phone video of several Bay High School students dumping a bucket filled with urine and feces on her son in a twisted rendition of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

The video was posted on Instagram.

Bay Village Police Chief Mark Spaetzel called the prank "heinous," and said charges would be brought as soon as police identify the teens who organized the prank.

Bay Village School District faculty sent a letter to students and parents this week informing them of the situation and saying the actions of the teenagers in the video do not reflect the majority of their student body.

The high school organized a vigil for the teen prior to a Friday night football game.

(CNN) -- Police have identified those involved in an incident in which the ice bucket challenge trend was used to trick an autistic teenager into being drenched with a bucket of urine, feces and spit.

Authorities are not yet releasing the names, and are not discussing potential charges as the investigation is not yet complete, said Bay Village, Ohio, Police Chief Mark Spaetzel.

"We are conducting a comprehensive investigation," Spaetzel told CNN Tuesday.

Three celebrities have offered a reward to find those responsible.

Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg joined Drew Carey on Sunday in offering $10,000 each.

Bay Village is a suburb of Cleveland, Carey's hometown and the city where "The Drew Carey Show" was based.

A video of the prank shows the teen standing outside a garage door in his underwear when someone from the rooftop dumps a bucket of murky brown fluid over his head.

The 15-year-old boy's mother told CNN affiliate WJW-TV in Cleveland that the video was discovered on her son's cell phone.

"He was embarrassed because he did not know what the contents were until afterwards, and then he didn't want anybody to know," the mother told the station. "They used his phone to tape it, and they put it up on Instagram."

The stunt appears to be a spoof of the ALS ice bucket challenge in which participants get a bucket of ice water dumped over their heads. The campaign raises awareness and donations for research on Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. According to the ALS Association, the Ice Bucket Challenge has raised more than $110 million.

The Bay Village police said it has been interviewing witnesses and trying to identify those involved.

"Preliminary information suggests this occurred prior to the start of the school year at a home in Bay Village," the department said.

"We understand the collective community anger. It is the hope of our community that this anger will be channeled into a positive action and supporting organizations such as Autism Speaks."

The Bay Village Schools superintendent said the school district is "heartsick over the cruel actions taken against one of our students."

"Many of our students and staff members have been participating in fundraising for ALS through the Ice Bucket Challenge," Superintendent Clint Keener wrote. "It hurts us deeply to see such a wonderful effort twisted to deliberately cause someone pain."

Five asshole teenagers are now facing criminal charges after they tricked an autistic boy into dumping feces, urine, and cigarette butts on himself by telling him it was part of the "Ice Bucket Challenge."

Last month, Bay Village, Ohio police identified the group of juveniles who allegedly tricked an autistic 15-year-old boy into dumping feces, urine and cigarette butts on himself by telling him it was an "ice bucket challenge." The video went viral after the boy's mother saw it on his phone and alerted police.

Local prosecutors say the five assholes now facing a judge in juvenile court are all between the ages of 14 and 16. Three of them are reportedly charged with delinquency, assault and disorderly conduct and the other two face disorderly conduct charges.

"The victim and the five charged juveniles were and are friends and classmates. They regularly associate with one another and, at times, engage in distasteful and sophomoric pranks," Bay Village prosecutor Duane Deskins said in a statement. "However, this incident is clearly different. It crossed a moral and legal line, and even the five alleged perpetrators understand that and have expressed regret."

:-k ok....so if that is the case and this autistic boy has been participant in (not victim of...not that such a notion would exclude him from being the victim per se) many pranks before, that kinda changes this whole thing. sure, the bodily fluids were fucked up...but I've seen plenty of friends do fucked up pranks before bordering on almost that bad. so if this was all just part of a pattern and this one happened to go over the line, then these kids should not be charged, let's call it a learning experience and everyone goes home now dont cross the line again, fellas.

first bit on this made it sound like this was a random haze on some poor autistic boy. if the autistic boy is friends with them and participates in pranks that changes this whole fuggin story.
