I drive under the Center Street bridge daily...where the red arrows start is a two way street under the bridge...I believe the clearance is 10'4''

One day I'm ripping past the right hand turn under the bridge and see a U-Haul truck wedged up so hard under the clearance bar that the front wheels are off the ground

There's a bridge in an industrial section of the city that gets trucks caught underneath it all the time, I'll try and get a photo of it sometime. It's all scarred up

that's like the one I posted....in a U-haul 5 ton truck, one would think that the engine and chassis are pretty heavy in the front...I guess with over 8000 lbs in the box, it kinda evens out. I swear, one of the front wheels was right off the ground when I drove past it..front of the box firmly wedged into the overhead 6 INCH METAL BEAMS WITH THE SIGN

another one....couple of years ago a bus driver got a city bus wedged into a concrete overpass downtown....the overpass has been there for 60 years and the bus barn is real close...

driver's excuse in court - I thought I was in my car driving home after the shift.

 for the love of Pete, what????????

I like how they leave the paint scars as an additional warning in case the height signs don't deter the ignorant.

I've only driven a car in my lifetime but the moment I started driving a slightly TALLER vehicle, I think I would make damned sure I knew the clearance and plan accordingly.

While on vacation the parking garage for the Science Museum of Minnesota gave me some butt pucker.
On exit from Kellogg boulevard there was the usual height restriction with cross bar warning, but then you go down a narrow steep single lane incline with no option but committed direction.
Upon entry to the garage you go from steep incline on a turn to level overhang and I have no idea what length wheelbase their 8' whatever inches was based on.

Here's a photo of it, it doesn't really show how bad it is, but yolu can see how much cement has been chipped away

And many times trucks have gotten themselves completely wedged underneath the bridge...when you go under the bridge, you can see all the gouges and scrapes on the 'ceiling' of the underpass

This is why I never follow tractor trailers on the highway. A few years back, a disc jockey that had been on local radio for about 30 years, died on his way home from work. He was following a truck that didn't clear an underpass. It was hauling a load of pipes. One went through his windshield, and struck him in the head, killing him instantly. I think of him every time I'm on the road, and see a truck hauling anything that's tied down. I either slow down, or speed up and move over a couple of lanes.

I've followed the odd flatbed with shady loads partway tied down in my city...I get out of the lane ASAP..
