DENVER (CBS4) - More Colorado workers are testing positive for marijuana since the state legalized recreational use of the drug.

Quest Diagnostics, who performs a lot of testing for companies, reported an increase of 20 percent from 2012 to 2013.

The increase in positive tests is higher in Washington state — a 23 percent increase — since the legalization of marijuana there.

Quest Diagnostics says this is the first time in 10 years that workforce drug tests have been on the increase nationwide.

Why the fuck are they testing for a legal substance? Im sure people would test positive for alcohol as well.

Because employers can still ban the use of it by their employees if they so desire.

Really? Can they ban prescription drugs and alcohol too?

slippery slope time...up here they can test for cannabis in the bloodstream but the test isn't sensitive enough to say when...

So workers can test positive and a decent lawyer can have the test thrown out. Until science determines exactly how long weed stays in a person's body, the test becomes a negotiable item even after a positive reading. Example - a long term daily smoker may have cannabis traces in his bloodstream longer than a binge smoker who only puffs on weekends, even when the long term smoker hasn't consumed any for a few days.

and comparing a pot test to an alcohol test? If buddy is impaired on booze while working, I don't want to be in a physical environment along side him
