DENVER — A Colorado based cheese conglomerate is severing ties with a New Mexico dairy plant after a video surfaced Wednesday detailing alleged abuse.

The video released to all Denver media, on behalf of Mercy for Animals, details conditions at a dairy plant near Roswell, New Mexico. Since the video’s release, the plant at Winchester Dairy Farm has shut down operations but an investigation into its practices remains ongoing.

The video is graphic and viewers should be warned that some portions may be difficult to watch.

After the video was released, Denver based Leprino foods tried to calm the public’s backlash by releasing this statement:

“Leprino Foods cares deeply about the health and welfare of the animals on the farms that supply our milk. As soon as Leprino Foods was informed about the abuse on one of these dairies, ALL SHIPMENTS FROM THAT FARM WERE TERMINATED IMMEDIATELY. LEPRINO FOODS IS NOT RECEIVING ANY MILK FROM THIS OPERATION. We take these situations extremely seriously and are extremely repulsed by these events. The actions depicted in the video are appalling and unacceptable. Leprino Foods Company prides itself in providing an uncompromising commitment to high-quality real cheese, and the milk must be supplied to us by farmers who share our commitment to the highest level of animal health and wellness.”
