A patient who was complaining of a ‘strange itch’ in his ear discovered he actually had a massive insect living inside his ear canal.

Doctors, thought to be working in the South Zone ENT Research Centre in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, India, removed the two inch beast from the unnamed man’s head using tweezers, and even managed to film the procedure.

The cricket can be seen crawling further back into the poor man’s ear as the doctor’s tweezers approach him, however he is eventually grabbed and pulled out, leaving the patient unharmed.

Doctors said the insect would not have been able to sting the man’s inner ear, however his presence could have irritated the area enough to cause temporary hearing and balance issues.

Speaking to Daily Star Online, Michael Sweet, an expert on invertebrate biology and a lecturer at the University of Derby, said: ‘[Crickets] like warm countries and hide during the day. It is likely this cricket crawled into the man’s ear while he was sleeping and was just hiding there until night came around.’
