A DRUNK man knocked himself unconscious after attempting to steal a bottle of wine from an East Grinstead supermarket.
Police were called to Sainsbury’s in Brooklands Way to reports of what appeared to be an attempted theft at 9.32am today (Thursday).
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “A drunken man had entered the store and had tried to run out with a bottle of wine from the drinks department.
“However, he collided with a shelving unit and was knocked unconscious, dropping the bottle which smashed on the floor. An ambulance crew attended and the man was revived.
