When your mother is one of the most famous women on the planet, it's hard to make your own impact on the world.

But it seems Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon is causing quite a stir in her first term at Michigan University.

Lourdes, who is set to turn 18 on Tuesday, has enrolled on the college's performing arts course, almost 40 years after Madonna herself briefly attended the university before heading to New York to make it as a singer.

And it appears Lourdes has the same effect on the opposite sex as the Vogue hitmaker had in her hey-day.

A classmate of the teen - who goes by her nickname Lola - told The Sun: 'Lourdes has big shoes to fill but has the potential to do it. She has enormous ability, talent and charisma.

'She is so gorgeous and stylish too. Boys are queuing up to take her out.'

Despite being brought up in the lap of luxury and launching her own teen brand, Material Girl, while still at high school, the pretty brunette differs in one way from her superstar mum - she's no diva.

So much so that Lourdes - who is used to jetting around the world and staying in five star hotels - is slumming it in a bunk bed in a shared room on campus.

She took to her blog earlier this year to speak about her excitement over the next phase of her life after graduating from high school.

She wrote: 'HEY to all the readers. I don't know if u heard (sarcasm) but I GRADUATED. GRAAAAAD. UATED. From High School. Its very difficult to wrap my head around because I feel like its something I've been talking about FOR EVER and it finally happened.

'There also isn't the ominous presence of another year of high school and test taking up ahead like there usually is when you're about mid way into the beautiful summer.'

Madonna revealed back in 2012 that she hoped her eldest daughter would follow in her footsteps and head to college in Michigan, which is her home state.

Speaking about her own time in Ann Arbor, the city where the university is based, in 2012, she said: 'I keep telling her Ann Arbor is an awesome place.'
