INDIANAPOLIS - A tractor-trailer carrying thousands of gallons of human waste overturned Monday afternoon, closing a ramp of Interstate 465.
The semi turned over about 1:30 p.m. on the northbound ramp from I-465 to 10th Street.
Officials said to seek alternate routes while crews worked at the scene of the crash.
Wayne Township Fire reported via Twitter the driver of the truck was stable. He was transported to IU Methodist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. .
Wayne Twp. Fire Spokesman Mike Pruitt said that approximately 4000 gallons of waste sludge and 25 gallons of diesel was dumped. Crews were able to contain the spill to a ditch near the crash.
Marion County Health Department and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management were handling cleanup.
The truck is owned by Kokomo-based Merrell Brothers Biosolids Management.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
