In a gruesome act of collateral damage, a Melbourne man confessed to smothering his two young daughters with a pillow as a ploy to seek revenge against his ex-wife.
Savannah and Indianna Mihayo, ages 3 and 4, were given brand new ballerina dresses to wear as their father, Charles Amon Mihayo, 36, video taped them singing and dancing to “Let it Go,” from the Disney blockbuster “Frozen.” It is unclear if any cruel irony was intended based on the song of choice.
Shortly after the video ends, Charles Mihayo allegedly smothered Savannah and Indianna with a pillow. In his Victorian Supreme Court hearing, Charles Mihayo pleaded guilty to the vicious act, claiming that while it was not premeditated, it still occurred.
According to News.com.au, Charles Mihayo had recently conducted a Google search, “ways to kills my ex-wife.” While in a physical sense, Mihayo did not succeed at completing his Internet search, on an emotional basis he succeeded by stooping to an atrocious level.
Mihayo claimed that his ex-wife had moved on to a new lover and that there were visitation issues with his two daughters. It is unclear what logic Mihayo used to think that murdering his two young daughters would somehow be any sort of solution to his visitation rights issues. Now Mihayo will never see them again.
Although it is deplorable in nature, children being injured in the wake of a parental separation or dispute is a decently common occurrence. Somehow by inflicting pain on the children the mother or father wishes to enact revenge on their former spouse. The children, who are mere innocent bystanders, are looked at as tools or pawns rather than human lives.
The only logical explanation for such a motive would have to be some issue of mental heath. It is unfathomable how any parent, no matter how unloving, could commit such an act against their own offspring for the sole purpose of inflicting pain on their spouse.
