Grand Theft Auto 5 has just got even more immersive, which therefore means it’s even more offensive.

In a game where you can murder people in many ways, including shooting them, stabbing them and running them over, it takes a lot to offend further.

But that’s what GTA 5 has done with its switch to first person for next generation consoles, which puts you in the action like never before.

A user uploaded a video from the newly released version of the game, available on PS4 and Xbox One, which showed his character getting ‘serviced’ by a prostitute before beating her up and then running her over.

‘This is just wrong! I have a five-year-old, this is not what I want him to see, not cool,’ wrote YouTube user Aretusa.

But not everyone agreed, with some arguing rightly a five-year-old shouldn’t be playing the game because it had an 18 certificate.

Others were afraid the combination of the new first person view and a Virtual Reality headset, which could be widely available in a few years, could make the game even more realistic.

It seems the age old debate of computer games influencing people in a negative way will rumble on.

I dont understand how committing virtual atrocities is..."fun"...normally I say whatever, let people do what they want....but this game, I am surprised it exists, I find it to be the most abhorrent concept. I remembered seeing a buddy of mine playing this a bunch of years ago and was like hey look how cool this is and I went dude, what the fuck is wrong with you? beating someone in the head with a pipe, stealing their car, then doin 120 plowin over mailboxes and people and shit...that's fkn fun?

By that logic, you'd have to remove 75% of all porn content. It's an over 18 game.

people use it as an escape from the real world (try it some day  ), same could be said for driving games could you get away with driving at 200mph everywhere ?

Red, I used to have a bike and hop on it and wind it up to 160 to blow off some steam, 3, 4, 5 times a week at minimum. quite familiar with it. quite familiar with getting away with it, although I wouldnt test it with the police state surveillance we're subjected to these days. speed's one thing - wanton mugging, raping, killing....you are comparing that with driving fast??? never once did I hurt anyone while going those insane speeds.

How is it any different than any FPS or Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter
wanton raping, mugging, killing ....you're making an equivalence between that and one on one hand to hand or weapon vs weapon, where people are on an even ground and everyone has the same concept of what's going on ? how is that equivalent to running around maiming people that are innocent bystanders? (even if maiming innocent bystanders is not real.)

I don't see the big deal (for adults) since its fantasy. But, I also don't allow my son to play the game either

hey its....been said its a free country, so who am I to tell people what they can do on their own time. but this game....this game is the only game I have ever found utterly abhorrent and offensive in its glorification of thug life.

I mean, eventually in the game does enough cops show up and kill you matter what? or is part of the fantasy that there's only enough police to keep you armed as you go through killing them? disgusting, depraved. that is among the worst ideas our society has ever produced. not quite up there with usurping the government and stealing the money factory of a nation, but its up there.

You are suggesting that adult fantasy content should be judged and/or censored based on what you find objectionable. Whether is rape fantasy porn or rape fantasy GTA... What's the difference?

 did I advocate for government involvement in tamping down this game or some other analogue? :hand:

no, I just personally find this game morally reprehensible in the extreme. And like Porky and Hugh and any other good dad out there, hell no my son would not be playing this game - although since he's 20, he can do whatever the fug he wants, really - that said, he does not play this game. (or most any other video game, really.)

But defining other peoples adult consensual fantasy activities as morally reprehensible is, by definition, policing thought.

yes.

Reason - because it's all about what you can't do in real life. The graphics are far from photo realistic and GTA games are steeped in humor throughout. Do GTA games send a good message for young children? No. Do they allow an adult like me the opportunity to jump into any one of 30 different vehicles and speed, hit things, take jumps and damage the crap out the them? Yes.

The violence is not even close to being real but it is there. That sends a terrible message to impressionable young minds (you want something, beat someone and take it..) but it's called a sandbox or open world environment which means that jaded gamers like me have lots to do (over 100 hours of game time doing different things...and that's conservative). Just the city or world environments are huge...and the variety amazing.

It's the variety and ability to improve your character/lot on life/garage full of cars/living arrangements that make GTA games such a blast to play. It's like a SIMS game for meth addicts and driving freaks

I will never backseat dad....but there are a lot worse games out there. Granted GTA San Andreas was about being a black character, rising up through the hood and being a badass...but it was a sort of role playing game. Your dude can go to a gym and work out, he can gain skills that aren't violence related and also help other guys out of tough spots...

I can't really defend any GTA games because the main thrust in all of them is doing jobs (crimes), fucking with the Po po and staying alive ...but as mentioned, I've played some pretty realistic WW2 shooters and even some scary games....and those games leave you with a different feeling than after playing GTA.

example....I was looking for a certain type of sports car to rip off....I got it, the cops tried to catch me and I ended up bailing from the car into this large bay of water. And then I was competing in a triathlon  It's the variety of things to do in GTA games that makes them awesome pieces of software to purchase and play nightly

It sends a horrible message to young children in the guise of fun...comparative to other games (playing as an adult) though, they are absolutely loaded with things to do and hours of enjoyment

If playing vid games isn't your thing in the first place, you'd never know the value or fun factor GTA games contain....nothing worse than paying 69 dollars for a PC game and finishing it within 6 hours
