ROCKVILLE, Maryland — In reporting, as in police work, the prime suspect in a crime rarely walks right up and gives you his name.

Rarely, but not never.

While a local TV news crew was covering a serious structure fire last week, a man calmly approached reporters while they were live on the air and told them that he had set the fire. While the journalists were pondering that, the man strolled over to two nearby police officers and confessed to them as well.

Judging by the expressions on the officers’ faces, they can barely believe what they’re hearing.

The suspect, who gave his name as Carlos, said he set the fire to attract attention to deplorable living conditions inside the home. He claimed he’d tried to go through legal channels, but had had no luck.

Six people escaped injury in the blaze, according to ABC2 News.
