Well it's time for the annual format/reinstall of Windows and all of my programs, games, files.

I guess part of me looks forward to all of the tweaking, changing and organizing that I do after a fresh install...to get everything back to exactly the way it was

Blast off is tomorrow morning.

:slap: I tried that and made a subsequent thread about the drawbacks....it lays the image over the old install, you never get to format your disk and if you do the once a year anti virus/firewall installation, that has to go into your existing files and overwrite a bunch of crap.

I just downloaded and installed some new updates to Windows, so with taking the new updates into consideration, it should take you about 5 minutes longer than you were originally estimating to reinstall everything.

some random notes...

Ccleaner 5.00 has probably the ugliest GU I've ever seen. I thought for a moment my videocard was failing :|

Guess they were going for the win 8.1 look and they failed miserably.

I ripped it out and reverted back to the previous version

On a more serious note (Lance), I was using Mipony 2.1.1 version before my reinstall. After I did my thing, went back to get the latest version and Norton removed the installers from 5...that's FIVE different sources

Finally found a zip file of version 2.1.1 on a foreign site and that worked

Yup, for some reason Norton thinks that the newer Mipony installer is something bad. Doesn't matter, the older version still works for now

Although unadmitted, I believe he's changing hard drives, aka, destroying evidence. ;)

No matter how strong your a/v or antimalware is, there's always something floating around that they can't detect. You'll never know if you've got it or not, and if you do have it, you'll never know what "it" is or what it's doing. Furthermore, installing and uninstalling programs you want to test out and decide not to keep sometimes leaves files or registry settings behind that you just can't hunt down. That leftover junk slows things down and sometimes acts as passive spyware. It used to be that back in the day, when the file system and registry was smaller and simpler, you could track all that shit down fairly easily. Things are bigger and more complex now. It's not so easy anymore. When you wipe your drive and reformat, it gets rid of all of that junk. You start over fresh.

So in that respect, periodic reformatting and reinstalling is a good idea.

I've noticed some things. My sound driver was working fine before this and now the bass and overall sound is MUCH better...not sure what happened there.

Overall system speed is great....not like it was too slow before, but there was definitely something in there bogging up the works...

My environment now has that Fresh Confident Feeling...like putting on a new pair of panties after a liberal spritz of FDS
