A study found that almost a third of the male university students they interviewed would rape a woman if there were no consequences.

The study, published in the scientific journal Violence and Gender, asked students how they would act in certain sexual scenarios in an effort to assess sexual attitudes and hostility towards women on university campuses.

But when asked what the students – the majority of which were white male Americans – would do in a situation where they could have sex against the will of the woman but without ‘any consequences’, 31.7% said they would go ahead and have sexual intercourse – in other words, they would rape the woman.

When asked if they would ‘rape’ a woman – with that wording – and if there were no consequences, the figure fell to 13.6%. The authors suggest the discrepancy between the two figures shows that some men have an idea of what ‘rape’ is and what the stereotypical ‘rapist’ looks like, but fail to see that the behaviour they endorse is rape.

The findings could have huge implications for sexual education programmes, specifically in dismissing preconceived notions of ‘rape’ or ‘the rapist’ in favour of more behaviourally-descriptive definitions.

86 people from the University of North Dakota and the North Dakota State University took part in the study.

I might kill a person or two... or fifty, IF AND ONLY IF it was a "consequence free situation".

Yeah, I think I would be more apt to murder then rape, not sure if that is fucked up or not

“I spent my career studying the criminal violent mind,” says Dr. O’Toole, “and now gratuitous violence is at an all-time high. This violence is well-planned, lethal, and extremely callous. The offenders are nearly always male. Does gender really make a difference in the commission of violent crime? It's time for a journal to take on this question.”

No agenda there. And the simple facts that violent crime is at historic lows makes me strongly question her credibility.

Nah, just a not-so-random killing spree to get rid of the wastes of flesh that are polluting the breathing air.
