Rap mogul's lawyer says he will turn himself in and will be exonerated as it was an "accident" that occurred while HE was being assaulted by two men
Hip hop boss Suge Knight is negotiating turning himself in following a horrific "accident" that left his friend Terry Carter dead, his Attorney has revealed.

James Blatt, representing the former Death Row Records CEO, says he and is client are confident that once police have finished their investigations, no charges will be brought.

Blatt said: "We are confident that once the investigation is completed, he will be totally exonerated.

"He was in the process of being physically assaulted by two men and in an effort to escape he unfortunately hit two (other) individuals. He was in his car trying to escape."

Blatt said Knight would negotiate to surrender but did not indicate when that would happen and said he had not yet spoken to Knight.

Revealing more details of the terrible tragedy in Compton, Los Angeles yesterday, LA County Sheriff, Lt. John Corina told how it was a red pick up truck that struck Carter and his friend Cle "Bone" Sloane at around 3pm yesterday.

Sloane, 51, was rushed to hospital but has non-life threatening injuries.

"Looks like he drove backwards and struck the victims and drove forwards and struck them again," he said

"Looks like he drove backwards and struck the victim and drove forwards and struck them again."

"The people we talked to say it looked like it was an intentional act."

The empty truck was found late Thursday night in a West Los Angeles parking lot, Corina added.

Knight, 49, was seen driving the vehicle 20 minutes earlier in a different area of LA.

Knight arrived at the movie set where Game, Ice Cube and Dr Dre were filming.

The music mogul, who was shot six times in LA nightclub 1OAK in August while partying with Chris Brown, got into some kind of argument at the earlier location and drove off, he said.

Witnesses said another argument developed at the restaurant parking lot before the accident, which Corina said was being investigated as a homicide.

FOX News and The Associated Press

Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has been arrested on a murder charge in a fatal hit-and-run in Los Angeles.

Sgt. Diane Hecht of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's information office said Knight was arrested at about 3 a.m. and is being held on $2 million bail.

Hecht says Knight is being held at the West Hollywood sheriff's station.

Knight turned himself in to authorities early Friday after his attorney said the rap mogul accidentally ran over and killed a friend and injured another man as he fled attackers.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Knight and his attorney James Blatt arrived at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department West Hollywood station early Friday.

"We are confident that once the investigation is completed, he will be totally exonerated," Blatt told the Associated Press by phone late Thursday.

MyFoxLA first reported that Knight was driving the red pickup truck that struck two men shortly before 3 p.m. local time in Compton, Calif., outside Los Angeles. The injured man was taken to a hospital and his condition was not immediately known. No identifying information about either man was available.

The Times reported that the tragedy stemmed from an altercation that occurred on the set of the forthcoming film "Straight Outta Compton," a biopic about the rap group NWA. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Capt. John Corina said that the two men Knight argued with went to a nearby restaurant about 20 minutes after the confrontation

Corina alleged Knight followed the men there in a red truck and ran them over in the parking lot. Witnesses told the paper the truck hit the men, then backed over them before fleeing the scene. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

"The people we talked to say it looked like it was an intentional act," Corina told reporters.

However, attorney Blatt claimed it was an accident.

"He was in the process of being physically assaulted by two men and in an effort to escape he unfortunately hit two (other) individuals," the lawyer said. "He was in his car trying to escape."

The empty truck was found late Thursday night in a West Los Angeles parking lot, Corina said.

Knight co-founded Death Row Records with Dr. Dre in 1991 and built it into the first successful mainstream rap label behind acts like NWA, Snoop Dogg, and Tupac Shakur. Knight was at the wheel of the BMW Shakur was riding in when he was shot and killed following a boxing match in Las Vegas in 1996. Tupac's death resulted in an exodus of artists from the label, and Knight was eventually forced to declare bankruptcy and auctioned off the company.

Knight has had repeated confrontations with the law. In 1997, he was sentenced to nine years in prison for violating the terms of his probation in an earlier assault case. He was released in 2001. In 2008, he was arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of drug possession and aggravated assault and pleaded guilty to a charge of misdemeanor battery the following year. He is currently awaiting trial alongside comedian Katt Williams on charges of second degree robbery in connection with the theft of a photographer's camera.

Former rap music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has been charged with murder and attempted murder after a fatal hit-and-run that followed an argument in Compton last week, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney.

UPDATE: Suge Knight due in court today to face charges

He could face life in state prison if convicted.

The official charges came hours after Knight's $2.2-million bail was revoked.

Knight, 49, is accused of running over Terry Carter and Cle "Bone" Sloan with his truck.

Carter was killed.

The confrontation began about 3 p.m. Thursday when Knight and the victims began arguing on the set of "Straight Outta Compton," a biopic about the group N.W.A, said Lt. John Corina of the Sheriff's Department's detectives unit.

Knight is due to make his first court appearance in Compton on Tuesday.

Knight's attorney, James E. Blatt, told The Times that his client was being assaulted and, while trying to get away from his attackers, accidentally ran the two men over.

Prosecutors say Knight's actions were intentional.

An officer at the scene of the hit-and-run, a restaurant parking lot.
Blatt described Carter as a good friend of Knight who was trying to break up the fight.

But Sgt. Richard Biddle of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the Carter family told investigators they disagree with that characterization.

“They say that Suge and their father are not close friends,” Biddle said, adding that he had watched surveillance video from the crime scene.

"It looks like an intentional act,” said Biddle, who is investigating the case.

Biddle said investigators are still trying to track down witnesses.

“There’s a whole bunch of people we still need to interview,” he said, “but no one is coming forward to cooperate.”

Knight co-founded Death Row Records with Dr. Dre in 1991 and built it into the first rap label to consistently dominate the pop scene. But he has a history of legal troubles.

In 1996, Knight was at the wheel of a BMW in Las Vegas when passenger and popular rapper Tupac Shakur was shot by gunmen in another vehicle. Shakur died a week later, and the case has not been solved.

In 1997, Knight was sentenced to nine years in prison for violating the terms of his probation from an earlier assault case. He was released from prison in 2001 but was sent back to jail two years later for violating parole when he hit a parking lot attendant.

In 2006, Knight filed for bankruptcy. He put his Malibu mansion up for sale the following year. In 2008, he was arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of drug possession and aggravated assault. The next year, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery.

Last August, Knight and two others were shot inside a packed West Hollywood nightclub at a pre-awards party hosted by singer Chris Brown.

Suge Knight taken to hospital after court hearing

Former US rap music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has been taken to hospital shortly after pleading not guilty to murder and attempted murder in court.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Mr Knight was seen by doctors after complaining of chest pains.

His earlier court appearance came five days after he was involved a hit-and-run incident in which one man died.

Prosecutors claim he intended to run over two men after an argument, but his lawyer has said it was an accident.

The 49-year-old faces a total of four charges under his real name Marion Hugh Knight and faces life in prison if convicted.

A truck Mr Knight was driving hit and killed his friend Terry Carter, 55, in the incident in the suburb of Compton last week. Another man, Cle "Bone" Sloan, 51, was injured.

The former record label boss's lawyer said his client was trying to escape an attack at the time.
