Ricardo Medina Jr, who played the Red Wild Force Ranger on the cult show, was arrested in Palmdale, California on Saturday.
Los Angeles Police say he got into an argument with his housemate, Jason Sutter, 36, at their home.
The police allege Medina went into his bedroom with his girlfriend and closed the door.
When Mr Sutter managed to force his war into the room, Medina stabbed him in the stomach with a sword.
Medina, 36, then called the police and was arrested, while Mr Sutter was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The actor, who also played Deker on Power Rangers Samurai, has had his bail set at $1million (£665,000), and is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
Medina made his debut playing Cole Evans, the Red Wild Force Ranger in 2002, and has appeared on a number of other productions.
He appeared in the cult horror film Parasomnia in 2008, and has also appeared in hospital drama ER and crime show CSI:Miami.
He was also a contestant in reality TV show Kept, which saw model Jerry Hall search for a 'kept man', where he was eliminated fifth.
