Anonymous hacktivists have claimed the return of the Pirate Bay is an elaborate ruse designed to snare copyright thieves.

Paranoid members of this shadowy group claimed the FBI relaunched the downloads site in a bid to snare people who illegally upload content.

On Twitter, an Anonymous member called TheAnonMessage tweeted the following warning:

ALERT: STAY AWAY from The Pirate Bay website as we have gotten reports that it has been seized indirectly by the FBI and is logging IPs.
— TheAnonMessage (@TheAnonMessages) February 1, 2015

This warning set off alarm bells among downloaders, who flocked to Reddit to express their fears.

One poster wrote: "Is it me or does something feel off about it?

"I haven't downloaded anything and i just get the feeling that it's setup/being monitored by the authorities in order to track users who are illegally downloading software off of the website."

The Pirate Bay hit the high seas again this week after cops scuppered it at the end of last year.

It has battled with the law for more than a decade.

Its servers were smashed back in 2006, although the site defiantly sprung back to life 72 hours later.

Four founders were jailed in 2009, but even this could not sink the Pirate Bay.

It has returned again and again since then, even thought its founder Peter Sunde said he would be glad to see it sink.

with the penchant for entrapment that the state has, and with someone from anonymous saying this, then you can be relatively sure its true.
