Alrighty, I'm really liking the show, so far it's been really cool and all but this last episode, "The Blind Fortune Teller"...

They introduced a character who's to become the Joker later. I have a nagging problem with this. They gave him a backstory... you can trace where he comes from. You're not supposed to know where the Joker comes from. It's part of his whole mystique in the comics, at least the later ones. You don't know his name, who his parents were, etc etc etc...

Everything else is pretty cool. Except for this. It's just not right.

Oh yeah, the chick playing the future Barbara Gordon's really hot.

The kid, Jerome, imitated Jack's Joker mannerisms quite well.

Just watched the episode. Yeah I didn't know he was to become the Joker until I read this...

I thought Ian from Shameless was a good bit of casting though as a young Joker.

DemonGeminiX
02-18-2015, 12:52 AM
They advertised it as introducing the Joker. Clearly, he's not the Joker yet, but again, you could tell by his mannerisms when he was sitting next to the fortune teller/father (Tio Salamanca!!! ). Again, he emulated Nicholson's Joker mannerisms quite well. At least I thought so.

Hal-9000

I never see commercials or previews or watch coming next week...little bit like Lance that way. Not a big spoiler by any means.

The actor they chose takes some heat for his acting on Shameless, not sure why. He looks to be a great choice for junior joker...his short little bit going from a sweet guy to angry maniac was brilliant IMO

What was that whole thing about the red hood? I'm not up on the more obscure Batman lore...is it the precursor to another villain or something?

I believe that in the older Batman comics, the Red Hood was actually a bank robber that eventually gets dropped in a vat of industrial acid by Batman and becomes The Joker. That's how they came up with Jack Nicholson's Joker origin in the '89 film. That's one of many Joker origin stories. The Red Hood in later comics is kind of an anti-hero/villian, more like a vigilante that kills criminals, a foil to Batman, who obviously doesn't. I believe this version was one of the Robins that "died" at the hands of The Joker and "came back from the dead".

The Dollmaker is a DC supervillain, although this one's identity isn't like any of the 3 comic versions. And he was alluded to in an earlier episode, when the street kids were being kidnapped and Gordon had to save Selina Kyle in that shipping crate warehouse.

There's a rumor floating around online that the ringleader guy is actually Ra's Al Ghul. If he is, then Jerome can be resurrected in the Lazarus Pit, if they don't have a problem with going into the supernatural realm. But then again, there's always some kind of chemical concoction to bring him back and give him the Joker look.

DemonGeminiX
10-06-2015, 11:38 PM
So apparently, according to interviews with the show runners, Jerome is indeed dead, and they wanted to show in the end scene the idea that his madness will/is inspiring others to create more chaos in the same vein, much like how the media coverage of mass-spree killers in our modern day inspires more to do the same (apparently, the douchebag that killed at the Oregon community college was inspired by the douchebag that killed those two reporters and the douchebag that murdered people at the Aurora, Colorado movie theater). Supposedly, somebody else may or may not take Jerome's madness further later and become the Joker after (or at least closer to when) Bruce becomes Batman.

If they're not bringing Monaghan's Jerome back, then they better find an actor better than him to play an adult Joker. That kid was really good. Probably the best actor on the whole show.

Hal-9000
10-07-2015, 03:22 PM
And often there are other reasons actors leave shows. He may have a contract with Shameless and couldn't manage doing both series.

It's too bad, wouldn't take much make up for him to become an older maniacal Joker :(

I accidentally saw a spoiler for that season finale last night, it said the character of Harley Quinn (or at least the person that would become her) was supposed to be introduced.

And how is Butch still alive? :wha:

The kid's way too young to become a crime fighter. He still has to train with the League of Assassins.

He can still start being a crime fighter :nono:

According to articles, she's being held for the next season. Butch is Cyrus Gold. That's Solomon Grundy. He's kind of like a zombie super villain. Just because you get shot in the head doesn't mean you're gonna die. There's plenty of stories of people miraculously surviving a head shot. Besides, it's not like she used a 12 gauge on him.

Selina's got her whip.

He needs to leave Gotham.

P.S. Lazarus pit!

I thought Solomon Grundy was a nemesis of Superman?

The executive producer has been saying all season that Harley Quinn would be in the finale though.

And it may not have been a 12 gauge, but Butch had a pretty good sized hole in his forehead :nono:

He's fought Batman... and just about everybody else in the DC comic-verse.

I've been doing some searching, they say she was in the episode. Lots of people are saying that it will be Barbara.

It’s long been known that “Gotham” has plans to introduce Harley Quinn, be it at the end of this season or the start of Season Four, but the producers have remained relatively silent on whether the popular DC Comics antihero/villain will be played by a new actor, or if the identity will be taken up by an existing character. Again, fans’ fingers tend to point toward Barbara Kean as the most likely cast member to assume that mantle. Now there’s another potential piece to the puzzle suggesting that may well be what happens.

A recent photo, released to promote the upcoming episode titled “Heroes Rise: The Primal Riddle,” features Barbara, clad in a fur coat and dress. While that description may not sound very Harley Quinn-esque, the color choices and lighting give the otherwise-unexciting image some potential subtext.

In the photo, the light casts across Barbara’s face, turning it a pale blueish-white hue not dissimilar to Harleen Quinzel’s own skin tone. The same lighting gives Barbara’s fur coat a number of bluish-white highlights. The resulting effect plays with the red and black of Barbara’s dress and coat in such a way it creates an image that calls out to Harley Quinn’s iconic color choice. The patchwork aspect of the coat further plays into the imagery, bringing to mind the mirrored patterns typically worn by the iconic DC villain-turned-hero.

Of course, there may well be nothing to this. However, the work put into lighting a television show is done with deliberate intent, and the decision about which photos to release to the public also tends to be made with specific goals in mind. Even if this does end up being a red herring, its likely Fox’s “Gotham” public relations team at least wants us to continue to look down the road towards Barbara’s potential future as Harley in our minds.

Barbara Kean marries Jim Gordon. Dr. Harleen Quinzel is an entirely different character. It can't be Barbara Kean.

According to various sources, she's the girl who Bruce saves from a mugger, along with her parents, at the end of the episode.

I was looking for more theories on Harley Quinn this morning and came upon a site that dedicated an entire (lengthy) article about how the series sucks, it lies to the viewers (because the HQ reveal wasn't obvious, if at all), and how the finale sucked. :wha: If you hate the show that much, why bother writing about it FFS?

Batman is probably one of my least favorite of the major superheroes but I love Gotham, I think it's well done and I enjoy watching it (as does the wife).
