A retired school principal and 911 dispatcher is now facing federal sex and child porn charges after investigators said he tried to meet two teen boys for sex in Palm Beach County.

Dennis D. Blake, 64, of Delray Beach, was first arrested on state charges in January after police said he showed up to meet what he thought was a 15-year-old boy at a Boynton Beach Mall restaurant. The person he was meeting was an undercover city police officer who posed as a minor on the online Grindr service.

When investigators later conducted a detailed forensic search of his cell phone, they found evidence Blake had also gone to meet a real teen, who he thought was 16, for sex in December after they communicated on another online service.

Blake went to the boy's Lantana home within two hours of starting to chat online, authorities said.

The boy, who was actually 15, told investigators he "chickened out" of having sex when Blake showed up.

Blake moved to Delray Beach in August after retiring from his jobs in southern Indiana.

The teen contacted Blake on Dec. 8 using the online service Growlr, and they discussed meeting for sex.

Blake asked for, and received, sexually explicit photos of the boy. The boy first told Blake that he was 18, then said he was 16 in online messages.

"Blake responds … 'That's hot' and 'I can't come to your house since you're underage. But you can come here,' 'Too much danger in getting caught. And I can't risk that,'" Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Schiller wrote in court records.

The boy sent Blake his home address and Blake sent the boy a photo of his penis, authorities said.

Soon after that, the teen wrote a message telling Blake to leave.

"Blake responds 'Oh man. Are you kidding???' and 'Well I'm here now. At least meet me," according to court records.

Agents from Homeland Security Investigations said the teen confirmed details of the chats and said Blake came to his home, but was not allowed in.

Schiller told the judge Blake communicated with the undercover officer for several weeks, starting in October.

Blake pleaded not guilty to four federal charges Wednesday in federal court in Fort Lauderdale. He is charged with two counts of enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity and one count each of receiving and possession child pornography. Three of the charges involve the real teen; one enticement charge involves the undercover officer. The most serious charges carry a maximum penalty of 10 years to life in federal prison.

Blake's lawyer Brian Balaguera told the judge that Blake retired from his job as an elementary and middle school principal and teacher in Indiana in 2005. Blake also worked for about 38 years, part-time and then full-time, as a 911 dispatcher in Indiana.

Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Seltzer ruled Blake is a flight risk and danger to the community and ordered him detained without bond.
