Seattle police detectives expected to find plenty of nasty stuff when they arrived at Jeffrey Alan Clark’s First Hill home.
Still, the doll must’ve been something of a surprise.
Police claim to have seized computers containing a large stash of child rape videos from Clark, who now faces child pornography charges in King County Superior Court. They also found a doll dressed in children’s underwear.
“The materials seized at the time of the warrant ... include a doll wearing underpants that had 'thank heaven for little boys' written on them in addition to evidence that the doll was used in acts of sexual intimacy,” said Cecelia Gregson, a senior deputy prosecutor with the King County Prosecutor’s Office.
Clark, 46, drew police attention in December after workers at Google reported a suspicious email to law enforcement.
Writing the court, a Seattle detective said investigators tracked the offending message – which contained an image showing the rape of a young boy – to Clark. Investigators then secured search warrants for his email account and Broadway apartment.
Arriving at the apartment on Feb. 12, investigators found the home strewn with dog feces and piled with garbage, the detective said in charging papers. The mess was so severe, investigators had trouble moving around.
Clark was hostile toward police, the detective said, and initially declined to discuss the allegations.
“Clark was belligerent and complained about retaliating due to his posting comments (online) about Homeland Security and cyborgs,” the detective said.
Early in the interview with police, Clark told detectives he wanted to talk to his lawyer, the detective continued. As the questioning continued, though, he is said to have admitted to owning the computers on which child pornography is alleged to have been discovered.
“I didn’t rape no children,” Clark told police, according to charging papers. “I’ll tell you that right now.”
Clark went on to explain he collected videos and photos of children being raped to keep himself from “doing that” and “having bad thoughts when I’m around kids,” the detective said in charging papers.
“He told us that (he) would hang around in public restrooms to leer at children and that watching child pornography stopped him from doing those things,” the detective told the court.
Clark, the detective said, later asserted it would be acceptable for him to have sex with a child if the child was willing. He also admitted to having a messaging application popular with children on his cell phone.
The detective said Clark claimed he’d been sexually abused as a child, and that he sexually abused a 6-year-old when he was a teenager. He was convicted of indecent liberties in that 1986 assault.
Investigators examining Clark’s laptop computer found a number of files that appeared to contain child pornography, including one titled “the cutest girl in my collection,” the detective said. It was an image showing an 8- to 11-year-old girl being raped.
Clark has been charged with two counts of possession of child pornography. He’s currently jailed on $500,000 bail.
