A 72-year-old Laguna Niguel man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman under the guise he was training her to use a medical device, authorities said.
Following a three-week investigation, Raymond Newton Baker was arrested Thursday on suspicion of penetration with a foreign object and sexual battery, Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Jeff Hallock said.
Baker is free from the Orange County Jail on $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court pending charges filed by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Unit began an investigation in early February after the 29-year-old female victim reported to deputies that Baker sexually assaulted her several times over a three-month period, Hallock said.
The victim said that Baker, owner of Beautiful Image LLC at 30012 Ivy Glenn, Suite 220, in Laguna Niguel, sexually assaulted her under the guise he was training her to use the “soon-to-be-patented” cosmetic “Micro Current” device, Hallock said.
There is no indication Baker operated a legitimate business or had any patents pending, Hallock said.
Baker told the woman the device was designed to reduce age lines and cellulite and to promote weight loss, Hallock said.
The woman met Baker after answering a Craigslist job advertisement for the opening of a second spa in Fashion Island in Newport Beach, Hallock said.
Police said Baker paid the woman for each training period and later indicated that he had changed the business's name to “Bio Nova LLC.”
During the course of the investigation, Baker claimed 18 other women had participated in his training program and failed for various reasons, Hallock said.
Investigators think there may be other women who have had contact with Baker and fallen victim to his sexual scam, according to Hallock.
