Bug burrito: Tasty and healthy snacks, apparently

A chef is aiming to open Britain’s first restaurant where insects are the main item on the menu.

Adam Holcroft, 37, says dishes including bug burgers and cricket kofte kebabs at his Grub Kitchen will show people that creepy-crawlies can be a major protein source.

He said: “We want to pioneer the movement to normalise the eating of bugs on a day-to-day basis.

“We’re treating them as normal food, incorporating insect protein as an ingredient but using normal flavours we’re familiar with and everyday food items we recognise.”

The restaurant – opening in summer – will also serve up bug burritos and bamboo worm fudge ice cream.

But customers in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, who don’t fancy insects will be able to order conventional dishes.

Adam said: “People aren’t going to stop eating meat so bugs are going to sit next to normal dishes on the menu.”
