During a town hall discussion with MSNBC host, Jose Diaz-Balart, on Feb. 25, President Obama threatened to hold law enforcement accountable if they ignore his November policy barring the enforcement immigration law against millions of immigrants.

According to the Daily Caller, in an Oval Office speech on immigration given in November, Obama announced a new program for unauthorized immigrants who are parents of United States citizens. A new legal status will defer deportations of about 4 million people and allow them to work legally, the NY Times reports.

Obama stated in the town hall discussion: “The bottom line is, is that if somebody is working for [U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement] and there is a policy and they don’t follow the policy, there are going to be consequences.”

Comparing law enforcement agencies to the U.S. military, Obama said: “In the U.S. military, when you get an order, you’re expected to follow it. It doesn’t mean that everybody follows the order. If they don’t, they’ve got a problem.”

In his November Oval Office speech, Obama told Americans that deporting millions “is not who we are” and defended his policy by asking, “Are we a nation that tolerates the hypocrisy of a system where workers who pick our fruit and make our beds never have a chance to get right with the law?” Also adding, “Whether our forbearers were strangers who crossed the Atlantic, or the Pacific, or the Rio Grande, we are here only because this country welcomed them in."
