Police investigating the disappearance of teenager Becky Watts have found body parts at a house in Bristol.

Four men and one woman have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police have been given an extra 24 hours to quiz a 28-year-old man and 21-year-old woman on suspicion of murder.

Becky, 16, was last seen at her home in St George, Bristol, on 19 February. Police said her family had been told the "devastating" news.

Det Supt Mike Courtiour, of Avon and Somerset Police, said officers went to a house at Barton Court in the Barton Hill area of the city after receiving new information on Monday night.

"The information suggested that Becky's body had been cut up and a search at the new location resulted in the discovery of body parts," he said.

'Terrible ordeal'
"Although formal identification procedures have not yet been completed, we have made Becky's family aware of this discovery."

He said the latest five arrests - two men aged 29, two aged 23 and a woman aged 23 - were made as a result of the find. All seven arrested people remain in police custody.

On Tuesday afternoon, police were granted a further 24 hours by magistrates to question the two arrested on suspicion of murder.

A coffin was removed from the rear of the property on Barton Court on Tuesday lunchtime and was taken away in a private ambulance.

Det Supt Courtiour added: "This is devastating news for Becky's family and friends and our thoughts are with them. We will continue to offer every support we can to them during this terrible ordeal."

Becky's mother Tania, grandmother Pat and brother Daniel Watts released a joint statement following the discovery.

"We are devastated to be told of this latest development," it read.

"We are at an utter loss to understand why anyone would want to hurt our beautiful Becky in such a brutal way."

Father Darren Galsworthy and step-mother Anjie added in a separate statement that the news about their "dear daughter" was "too much to bear".

"We have the support of a good family network to help us in these challenging times.

"We would ask that you treat Becky with the due reverence and allow us to come to terms with our grief in private."

The BBC's Andrew Plant, who is at Barton Court, said police were removing wheelie bins from the street.

He said the bins were last collected before Becky went missing.

Bristol Mayor George Ferguson tweeted: "Very grim sounding news re missing #Bristol teenager Becky - our hearts go out to her family and friends."

A number of places, including three houses and woodland, have been searched as part of the investigation.

Becky had left home with her phone, laptop and tablet computer but did not tell her friends or family where she was going, or take extra clothing.

She was reported missing at 16:00 GMT on 20 February.

Avon and Somerset Police had said it was running six search teams in the hunt for Becky.

Experts from the National Crime Agency and College of Policing were also involved, and a police helicopter has been used in the search.

for some reason it bothers me more to find out that a group of people are responsible for a murder, rather than one person...

it implies a sick group fascination or a form of grandstanding (to me)...

This is very sad.
When they said she left the house and took her laptop, her phone and her tablet, it seemed maybe someone had instructed her to bring all, so no electronic evidence was left behind.
I'd hoped she had just eloped or similar with someone, but the grim reality seems to be she is now in pieces.
Body parts, fucksake, she's only a young 'un.

Four people have appeared in court accused of helping to hide or dispose of teenager Becky Watts' body parts.

Karl and Donovan Demetrius, both 29, Jaydene Parsons, 23, and James Ireland, 23, were charged with assisting an offender earlier.

All were remanded in custody after a short hearing at Bristol Magistrates' Court.

Becky's stepbrother, Nathan Matthews, 28, appeared in court earlier charged with her murder.

Karl and Donovan Demetrius, and Ms Parsons, all of Barton Court, Bristol, and Mr Ireland, from Avonmouth, will appear at the city's crown court on 26 March.

They all face a single charge of disposing or concealing Becky's body parts with the intent "to impede the apprehension or prosecution of Nathan Matthews".

A fifth person - a 23-year-old man also arrested on 2 March - was released without charge.

The 16-year-old's stepbrother, of Warmley, Bristol, appeared at the city's crown court via video link earlier, charged with her murder.

He was also remanded in custody to appear at crown court on 26 March.

Mr Matthews' girlfriend, Shauna Hoare, 21, appeared alongside him at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Thursday charged with perverting the course of justice.

She will appear before the crown court on 2 April.

Becky was last seen on 19 February and was reported missing the following day.

The discovery of her body came after an extensive search of various locations across Bristol.

Becky Watts stepbrother and his girlfriend guilty of killing

http://i.imgur.com/R8bEgPk.jpg

The stepbrother of Becky Watts has been found guilty of murdering her during a sexually motivated kidnap plot.
Nathan Matthews, 28, had admitted killing and dismembering the teenager but claimed her death was an accident and he was only trying to scare her.
A jury at Bristol Crown Court found him and his girlfriend Shauna Hoare guilty of conspiring to kidnap Becky, partly for sexual reasons.
Hoare, 21, was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter.

Matthews, a former Territorial Army soldier, suffocated Becky at her home in Crown Hill, Bristol, on 19 February.
He transferred her body in the boot of his car and drove it to the home he shared with his girlfriend, less than two miles away, in Cotton Mill Lane.
In the days that followed, while police were treating the case as a missing person investigation, Matthews bought a circular power saw, goggles, masks and cling film which he used to carve up and package Becky's body.
The trial heard the couple had shared texts, just weeks before Becky's death, referring to kidnapping schoolgirls and teen-themed pornography was found bookmarked on a phone which they shared.
In court, Matthews confessed to watching pornography on a near-daily basis and the jury learned that a video about the rape of a teenage girl was found on a laptop at their home.

The trial heard that this sexual interest in teenagers, as well as a shared dislike of Becky, is what lay behind the plot to kidnap her.
When Matthews and Hoare knew police would be coming to their house on 24 February, as part of the missing person's search, they made arrangements to move Becky's remains to a shed at a friend's address, 80 metres away.
Two days later, forensics officers found blood stains on doorframes upstairs at Becky's home, among them was a fingerprint that would turn out to belong to Matthews.
After their arrest on suspicion of murder, he admitted killing Becky, in what he claimed was a bid to scare her that had gone "horribly wrong", and revealed where her remains were being stored.
But Hoare denied any knowledge of Becky's death and dismemberment, something the prosecution said was "ridiculous", as she had been with Matthews when Becky died and for most of the days that followed.
The jury took just over three hours to convict the pair, after hearing 21 days of evidence.
Hoare was also convicted of perverting the course of justice and preventing a lawful burial, charges Matthews, who gave his address as Hazelbury Drive in Warmley, South Gloucestershire, had admitted.
As verdicts were returned, Becky's father Darren Galsworthy and his wife Anjie - Matthews' mother - sobbed.
Matthews and Hoare remained emotionless.

Speaking outside court, Det Supt Mike Courtiour said: "Matthews and Hoare concocted a heinous plan to kidnap his stepsister Becky for reasons that they have failed to fully disclose, other than she occasionally left items on the floor which could have tripped up Nathan Matthews' mother.
"The body of evidence however suggested a more sinister motive related to their deep-seated hatred for Becky and their twisted sexual desires."
In a statement delivered by a police officer, Becky's mother Tanya Watts described her as "a beautiful, happy, funny, feisty, caring, loyal and witty girl" and thanked police and the legal team.
Sam Galsworthy, Becky's uncle, said: "Finally, justice has been done for our beautiful Becky. "
"For us as a family today is not the final chapter in this tragedy, but now we can at least begin the challenge to rebuild our lives."
Two other men - Donovan Demetrius, 29, and James Ireland, 23 - were acquitted of a charge of assisting an offender, related to the moving and storage of Becky's body parts.

Nathan Matthews has been jailed for a minimum of 33 years for murdering his stepsister Becky Watts, 16, in a sexually-motivated kidnap plot.
His girlfriend Shauna Hoare, 21, has been sentenced to 17 years for manslaughter.
At Bristol Crown Court, Judge Mr Justice Dingemans said he was sure on the evidence "that the planned kidnap of Becky was for a sexual purpose".
Matthews suffocated his stepsister at her home in Bristol on 19 February.
The judge appeared emotional as he paid tribute to Becky's family at the end of sentencing.

A decision by Becky Watts' killers to appeal against their jail terms has been attacked by the murdered teenager's family.
Nathan Matthews, 28, and his girlfriend Shauna Hoare, 21, are intending to challenge their sentences for murder and manslaughter respectively.
Becky, 16, was killed during a sexually-motivated kidnapping, before her body was dismembered.
Her aunt said news of the appeals was a like "punch in the gut" for the family.
Another trial 'incomprehensible'
"Only this week reality was slowly returning, obviously with a massive void, but we were trying to rebuild our lives," said Sarah Broom.
"And to hear this news is a punch in the gut. It is the not knowing if they'll succeed which is the hard bit.
"The thought of having to do another trial is incomprehensible. We just hope the justice system doesn't fail Becky at the last hurdle."

Matthews was last month given a life sentence and told he would serve at least 33 years. Hoare was jailed for 17 years.
The lengthy trial at Bristol Crown Court heard how Matthews suffocated the teenager at her home in the St George area of Bristol on 19 February while trying to kidnap her.
Becky's body was dismembered and hidden in a shed while a huge manhunt in Bristol attempted to track down the 16-year-old.
Hoare was convicted of manslaughter because she had participated in a kidnap where any "sober and reasonable person" would have known some harm would come to Becky, the court heard.

Becky Watts's killer was beaten up so badly she had to be brought back to life twice, it has been revealed.

Shauna Hoare, 22, has been repeatedly attacked by other prisoners, a close friend told a national newspaper.

The friend, who did not want to be named, said: "Shauna has been so badly beaten up she has needed to be resuscitated twice.

"She says the best she can do is take it day by day."

Hoare is currently serving a 17-year term for manslaughter.

Not convinced that isn't shit. Newspapers have a habit of someone who was knocked out, and then recovered from their faint by being put into the recovery position, as being 'resussed'.
Thing is, it is awful people beating awful people. The blameless are not locked up with her.
